Hi all,

It's some time since I posted here but these are sooo good I had to. Posted and made by one of our TidalForce members.

Check these:

Golden Gate http://web.mac.com/liveitproduction/iWeb/Live%20It%20Production/Golden%20Gate.html (the end is unbelevable!)

This just goes to show how advanced this technology has become. Big Up to JIm Turner for designing somthing sooo special. We have 20 bikes on order (for Team Hybrid) and one is mine! I can't wait!

LOL Frank, yes my friend. You have to really want the best and have a good bank manager if you want one.

I have NOOO idea on the drive system. I will go to Boulder next month to see what all the fuss is about. Maybe bring my bike back with me. But they have a bottom bracket that is suppose to be an amzing leap forward? Jim did win an "inovation 2007" award for this bike.

I will get all the dirty details soon. The best thing for me is the 3yr warentee on the 20ah internal Lithium battery. In fact it's 3 yrs or 30,000 miles. Any problems, they will replace the pack. And the top end models come with a built in PDA and GPS as standard.

Did you see the guy flying through the air? it's hard to tell but both wheels where coming off the ground at around 30mph! (I am guessing here, it could be more) I want to try!!! And I want to do real power braking the rear wheel and smoke away :D

Hi Richard

Wow those videos were amazing!! it really does move that thing they are big vids, I downloaded them and played them back on my PC, its a superb machine! and you are getting 20 of them!! jeez I doubt that there is a dealer in the US that is going to stock 20 of them!!

The spec does sound brilliant, I just started to watch the golden gate footage, is it Devin? looks like his house? also he has a battery on his back if you look at the opening shot.

I would love a blast on an Optibike, it took me a while to come around to them but i do love them now!! must try and meet up with you and Mark this year some time, I got a new job so have been mental busy lately hoping to get back in to the e-bike swing very soon.

Thanks for the links to the vids they are a great watch!!

Cheers

Hi Paul,

It's great to hear from you me old matey, realy good!

We just signed a contract with Jim so we are the European Distributer for Optibike. The first order is all they can make :( it's a shame. We also have 200 TFs comeing but when? We are waiting for Matra.

Next month, try to come to our new show room for a test ride! I hope to have one Opti by then. And you could help with the filming!!!

The battery on the guys back was for the cammera. He is also a pro rider so this stuff is not advisable. I'm sure you could give him a run for his money though :) I would to!

Take care Paul and we wlll deffinitly hook up! I want to test the new KMX Glen made too! We must go to the e-bike rallys too!

That must be Devin. Nobody else rides like that.

Some of the hills he was going up are very steep. That thing really moves.

Hi Fechter,

It's not our D in the video. But I think the Opti would be perfect for his hills.

The guys name is Jamie Johnson. The guy is a pro downhiller or off-roader (Something like that). One of our TifdalForce members met him in person so i will try and find out. He is deffinitly a pro rider. Most of us could not do what he does. I do hard off-roading on trails and I don't think I could go that fast? Did you see the size of the rocks? They through him up high (LOL) Real skill.

Btw, it's great you helping Mark out! I heard all about it. if I can do anything for ya, then please let me know. We owe you!

Here's an interesting extract from Jamie. This was posted on the TF Forum.

By Jamie Johnson,

Thank you everyone for the kindness. My wife saw the response and
immediately fixed the photo page. I kept the videos very plain mostly
because I can barely get online let a loan do any real editing. I
really can not express how much I love that Optibike. That bike just
rips, up, down, street, dirt there is no stopping it. I also think
anyone thats going to ride the bike off road must get the TAG wheels,
they rule. And the bike is just tooooo fast for normal wheel sets.
Plus they look sick. Thanks agian for the kind remarks I never showed
any of my videos before. I will keep making more when I ride different
areas. Maybe Ill go win some down hill events with it, boy the trouble
that would start, or maybe a new class of mountain bike racing will
start, that would be cool. Remember Optibikes Rule. Oh yea the video
of the cool downhill I did it 3 times up and down of course and rode
around the trucks for about 35mins the bike is sick.

I want to strongly suggest to anyone getting an Optibike GET THE TAG
WHEELS. They are practically unbreakable. If you break a TAG wheel you
are on the way to the hospital because you are broke too. Really they
are super tough, super stiff, no cross wind effect. I think less wind
resistance than a standard spoke wheel. On the GGP video it is blowing
hard on the bridge as usual and I do not see any drifting from the
wind. Plus if you do not keep those spokes tensioned the Optibike will
destroy it with all that torque. There is no better choice for the
Opti it is simply to powerful for regular wheels. . I also run full
downhill tires even on the street and have seen 40 mph on the slight
donwhill on the bridge with DH tires and some tail wind. You should
see the looks I get from the people in cars. So If you ride off road
GET THE TAG WHEELS. They are not that heavy, same as DH rims.

I will make a video with natural sound as soon as the rain lets the
trails dry and both kids are asleep. The bike shifts like a F1 car
with an 8 speed transmission. I love that sound can't live without it.
I will get the pics on my site in the next couple weeks sorry for the
delay KIDS.

The throttle control is on the left side! The same side I choose because most of the gearing is on the right side of the bar. Ha, I thought I was the only smart one to think of that.

Hi Richard

Yes nice to hear from you, I certainly will come down and see you both I have a box of bits I need to get back to mark as well and it will be great to meet up, must try and do some of the e-bike rallies this year like you say, I want to meet with Deecannio as well as I have been chatting to him for well over a year now and it finally looks that his ride has been sorted thanks to Jozzer.

Yes that optibike is sweet! it looks so much like Devin esp the appartement? he lives in SF as well you see, oh his riding on that trail was out of this world, I used to do a lot of down hill riding but nothing like that his bike control is amazing, super slick reminds me style wise of Steve Peat the top UK downhiller or at least was! I know just how hard it is to do that, that Optibike is an amazing machine, I know its mega bucks but I have to say that it is worth it.

I also agree with him on those wheels, they look the business!! well I would love to have a test ride and I will come and do some video for you that would be awesome!! and a great way to promote the bikes, be great to see all the tidal force bikes come in as well just like e-bike xmas!!

20 Bikes thats a lot eh! I reckon when people know what they can do they will sell quite easily, have there been any fixed ideas on pricing? The UK market is prob a good selling place at the moment as we haven't really talked ourselves in to the credit crunch yet!

Thanks for the heads up on these videos and pass on big respect to this guy on the forum from me! he can ride! what an advert for that bike eh, my bike would have snapped in half and had buckled wheels within the first 5 mins I reckon!! so yes I havent seen anything as good as that, I think Deecannios bike is going to rock though once he has all those new batteries in there be great to see that going.

Thanks again Richard and let me know when the showroom opens, I will pop down.

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul,

I can't wait to meet for a burn! if you can make some movies then that would be awesome too! We (Team Hybrid) will arrange a Team Hybrid stunt team soon so maybe we can start at some of these rallies in style :) We will need volunteers though! (Hint hint) and lots of media coverage. Changing the stigma e-bikes have in general will be our main goal.

The Optibikes we will have are unique. It's our own version. We have the Optibike 600t with the new 2008 800w motor. I think it's actually 2000w (Going in?) but that is another story. We also are getting the internal 20ah pack which makes the bike around 45lbs (I need to check this). And my bike is coming next month (hopefully) and will have the tag wheels and a custom (Black) paint job. I wish I could find some special design but I couldn’t. So black it is. And we will test it out! (You too) no hype as usual.

Pricing will be around 4.5k (UKP) for Europeans. It’s the shipping costs that are the killer but the customer will not see any of that. Our pricing will be close to the USA price. So I think we are doing a good thing. There really is no real money to be made  But as you know, that is not what I am about anyway. Also, we will only have three bikes each month. And I think they will all sell in Harrods.

Anyway, I’m just trying to see how far we can push this stuff. The amount of sales are not really important to me. Just that we get some smileage onto our streets and some basic education.

Take care Paul and I will keep in touch!

Wow

The spec sounds awesome! and on sale in Harrods as well!! jeez thats very high profile!! it is an amazing machine, your bike in black should look sweet mate!! what you going to do with the sex? she is going to play second fiddle!! 20AH battery pack sounds amazing!! what chemistry is the pack? Its the one bike i really want to have a go on and watching the video makes me want to try one even more!!

We will hook up this year dont worry about that, need to get Steve Head and the dirt monkey out again as that little bike is a cracker!

Cheers

P

Hi Paul,

The pack is Lithium. Not sure what will happen to SeX but I LOVE her sooo much!!! I just can't see me selling her. I just got a new front hub and two 50amp VHD modules (Had those a while now) and run all three packs in parallel. I see only 1v sag!!! (It’s amazing). So I can now power for plenty of hours with 27ah of Saft NI-MH. But I have not ridden as much as I want. I now swim every day which effects my play time.

Take care mate, we will test the Opti and tell all!

Hi Richard

Swim everyday! thats great!! I manage once a week!! crikey, its a bit chilly for e-biking at the moment, I dont do quite as much e-biking these days as I walk to work but I still rip around on them at least 3 times a week and love it, the opti would be one heck of an indulgence for me but I would consider one as an alternative form of transport esp if i lived in London, yes I am sure that will be the carrot that tempts me along so see you guys, we almost hooked up last year though.

Keep up the swimming thats a great way to get fit and meet lots of ladies!!

Check the "Chin Cam"

Yeah, I tried that dirty Monkey at the Hampshire e-bike Really last year. The swine beat off the start too in an all out death race. But once I added pedal power and hit 30mph, I left the dog! me 36v against his 72v was interesting...

The KMX was my favorate. I enjoyed trying that out too,

Thanks for the info Richard. I'll have to keep an eye out for him, as I cross the Golden Gate bridge every day going to work. I'll also have to find one of those bikes for a test ride.

Hi fechter,

I can arrange a meet and test ride if you wish? it's the least I can do for you!

Take care,

Rich

Great-looking bike. I'd love to get a closer look at the bottom bracket drive and have a test ride (you get all all the fun Knoxie :). One thing I don't understand though. If the motor puts out 800W (peaking at 2000W!), how do you put that much power, plus rider input, through a normal chain and derailleur without tearing them apart in a very short time? Or did I miss something?

A bottom bracket drive has lots of appeal and I'm still looking for a good way of building one, but from what I've read they tend to eat normal bicycle components very quickly if you try to put more than a few hundred watts through them.

Hi Malc

No I havent tried one yet! but hopefully will do, the early optis did break chains quite regularly but i think that they have it fixed now? all those videos were great the only thing is I dont think its quite as quick as the xlyte, the way I could tell was by running Devins videos and these together as they are both crossing the same bridge! and both travel up the hill on the other side, infact i know that run so well after watching Devins films so much!! his X5 at 48V was so much faster than the opti, the opti was a bit disappointing on the hill climb the other side, on Devins films he climbs the hill much faster.

That said I would still like one!! over and above an X5!they are sweet machines and should be more efficient than the X5 in the long haul!

I made a bike using a 2KW motor with bike chain and yes it does wear it quickly for sure, thats why Drapers setup using mini moto chain is a much better option for durability (not over an opti) the opti is a spectacular machine, esp in its stealth, I havent heard the motor there was talk that there was some whine from the reduction? dunno dont care either the roads are so nosiy nobody will notice.

Cheers

Knoxie

Hi All,

ive only seen a snipet of the opti vid as my quicktime wont upgrade as i dont have sp2 :(
from what i see it looks the biz, it's way ahead of anything else as far as stealth goes and i can only applaud the design, pretty is an understatement - i dont know enough about optibike to comment technically but am i right in thinking that the drive goes through the regular chain setup? ie. power in every gear? i guess.
Anyway bike looks stunning and i would love to check one of these out in the flesh so to speak - Richard let us know if there's anywhere we can check these out, any shows near London planned?
Anyhow looks really cool, that guy can ride too!!!!
I would love to have one of these!!!! probably wouldn't stop me putting dual crowns on it though!!

cheers

Obviously the guy in the video is not too far from where I work.
I'd love to check one out. My schedule is very tight though.

As far as I can tell, the only real downside to this bike is the price tag... you get what you pay for.

If you want to know what it might look like inside, guys, here's the patent:
http://v3.espacenet.com/origdoc?DB=EPODOC&IDX=US2002014366&F=0&QPN=US2002014366

Woo

Thats rather cool!! cheers for that Miles!! makes it very clear indeed!! I will have a read of that over the weekend, I think the Opti is a pretty cool machine and there is a lot more engineering inside the bottom bracket than I first thought, great Idea to patent the device but scary as hell as there are folks in other countries that could take that design and make their own.

Thanks for posting

Knoxie

ug, that patent link didn't work. I always go to the http://www.uspto.gov site when I look at patents.

This and This are the links I found. Indeed the Optibike's BB drive is most cool. Fitting a motor, two stage planetary gear box, and two freewheels all in the bottom bracket.

Marty

P.S. the site is laid out by idiots, the patent searches can be found here http://www.uspto.gov/patft/index.html

ug, the whole US site is a nightmare and only contains US patents (which are a tiny proportion of those published, relating to electric bicycles) that's why I use http://ep.espacenet.com/ :)

Incidentally, in the intro "For example, most modem bicycles require only about 400 watts (1/2 horsepower) to propel the bicycle at 15 m.p.h. on level ground"......... only!!!
