I just wanted to give a review of the Nokian mount and ground W160 studded tires. Having biked 40-50k miles in my life, I've never used studded tires. Boy, was I missing out. It's nice to not have to worry about the sudden black ice which comes up quite often. Rough ice is also now passable.
I bought these tires for $45/each at a local bike shop. The tires are only 1.9" wide so they are fairly thin. Rolling resistance is no worse (maybe even better) than the 2.1" mountain bike tires that I removed. There is a slight noise from the studs but it's not bad. I can't comment on wear yet because I've only got about 100 miles on them.
Deep snow is still sketchy because the studs are pretty short and don't do much if they don't contact ice or the pavement.
