Ozone smell from battery

Hi All,

Friend of mine (not on the forum), noticed a strong ozone smell coming from his battery after a long ride (it's this battery: https://bmsbattery.com/ebike-batter...be-ebike-battery-pack-ecitypower-battery.html).

I'm guessing he's fried the BMS, but not sure...what do you guys think?

I've advised him to not use or charge the battery until he can bring it in somewhere to get it checked out.

Leaky pouch maybe, An odor from the battery is not a good thing.

fuse holder is melting down or one of the wires has a bad connection that has overheated or the wire is too small and overheated.

Leaking lithium batteries have a sweet smell. Ifyou get that, something is seriously wrong, so you shouldn't use one if you can smell it.

Thanks guys, appreciate the advice. I'm hoping it's just the leads or fuse holder.

I'm not really comfortable opening the thing up and playing around with the insides, so I will try to find somewhere local that is willing to take a look.

I have never had a lipo that didn't smell sweet, and I've used a lot of lipos. Maybe my sense of smell is just really good.

That sweet smell becomes a sweet stink when something's wrong.
