i decided to test out the idea of putting larger leads on the BMS by wrapping a loop of 14G solid wire around the distal end and then split the braid of some 10AWG stranded and solder it all together whith the ends of the 14G loop as gussets to the stranded cable, all to minimize time at heat and be able to solder it with the available heat and solder because i had to use alligator clips to hold it at the ends to set up, could only keep solder molten in a short 1/2" section at a time.
if you do this sort of thing, mask off the entire BMS surface. i had 3 separate solder splashes, big ones, and 2 of them were buried in the legs of the optos, had to shovel one splotch out lengthwise under the optos with a paper clip. added just a touch of solder to the shunt but the controller lead is soldered to the top of the edge of the shunt too. all 10AWG stranded, dumpster diving score from several years ago.
