Over the past couple days I've been trying to figure out various ways to get my Ipad (generation one) to communicate with my desktop computer at work in order to use the Ipad as a tablet that can be run to the overhead projector (the desktop computer has a direct line to the projector).
Obviously I can surf the net, go to Youtube, show PowerPoints to students on the big screen (and it's a huge screen) in the classroom with my desktop computer, but that's not what I was trying to do. I can already do it.
I have a Mobipad that is wireless. Think of a clipboard with a sylus. I can write and control the computer, but the pad has no screen, so in order to write or draw I have to stare at the screen at the front of the classroom.
Long story short: I found a simple solution: I Plugged my Iphone into the desktop at work and used the wi-fi hotspot to get it to communicate with the Ipad. It worked great. Now, I can look at the Ipad while I write notes, face my students, and make recorded presentations like Khan Academy, etc. It's great. Plus there are a lot of apps that can immediately transfer to the big screen. Great.
But, here's what I wonder: Since I am not using any data from the internet, I 'm wondering if I'm using any data. I think I'm just letting three devices communicate. Is it possible that the Ipad sends info to the phone, which gathers the info, sends it to the cell towers, receives it again, and transfers it to the desktop computer? I would hope not.
No internet is being used (as far as I'm aware), and the desktop has its own internet connection anyway.
What do you think?
