Polar Bear Security Software

Ah, the memories. There was this place I was working out of several years ago with these computers you could do whatever you wanted with: They'd simply reboot same way every time, no change was permanent. It had this software called Polar Bear. How I have longed for a copy of my own.

So this computer is less than 3 years old, yet it has achieved that legendary parity with molasses in winter. How I lament the unavailability of what I KNOW would have prevented that.

Does anyone know how to get this Polar Bear, or perhaps something like it?

Don't know Polar Bear but since polar bears live where it's cold maybe you mean Faronics Deep Freeze - A Fresh Start With Every Reboot. With this on your PC if you get infected with malware or a virus and have that not so fresh feeling, just reboot and it'll be like it never happened. Oh yeah, the Deep Freeze logo is a picture of a white bear.

I use Sandboxie - Sandbox software for application isolation and secure Web browsing. You should be able to freely use the trial unregistered version allowing one sandbox. After 30 days you get a nag screen to register. Paid version allows multiple sandboxes for various purposes and other features.

Since you can use it for free why not try Sandboxie first. I've been using it for years. I don't use anti-malware or anti-virus software. If you get infected, just empty out the sandbox. If I didn't use this I'd use Deep Freeze. I've seen public library PCs kept fresh for years with Deep Freeze.

Also, Returnil Virtual System Pro is a Deep Freeze-like product. Returnil System Safe is like RVS Pro but has a built-in antivirus. It's free for home, non-commercial use. ToolWiz Time Freeze is Deep Freeze-like and free to use. Shadow Defender (link to product guide and review) is Deep Freeze-like and was up and coming several years ago. But the author in China went missing without explanation for a long time. Now he's back and doing development again. Wilders Security Forums is a place where these products are discussed.
