Hey,
I'm new to the ebike scene and trying to get my toes wet :D
Currently trying to build one for my single speed, still doing a lot of reading and got questions that I'm not sure of regarding the battery/controller/BMS.

Ok so lets say the battery pack is,
36V 14A at 504Wh
10S5P with Max Continuous discharge 20A and Peak(burst) 40A

Am I limiting myself if a controller that does max output of 14A? or 22A would have an performance wise since the peak is 40A.

And for the BMS, should the max continuous discharge should be around 40A? Since higher the amp is being pulled and more heat is generated that can degrade the battery therefore the cutoff is 40A.

Thanks

btw, anyone know what kind of bag is this?

Actually, you cannot avoid limiting yourself, doing it consciously is part of good design.

Having an oversized battery if you can is great, that should not be your limiting factor.

Also having everything else oversized can burn out your motor.

IMO the best approach is let the controller be the limiting factor, or a "derating for overtemp" device like CA v3.

The BMS does not limit current to its rating, like a fuse just burns out if you exceed it.
