Since I am currently involved with 5 WE BD36 hub motors, I figure it is just a matter of time until some new brushes will be required. Does anyone know how to take these motors apart without damaging them? Thanks.
It shouldn't be too hard to get the side cover off. It might be necessary to use a gear puller to extract the magnet ring from the armature. Avoid letting the magnets slam when you put it back together.
I've never seen the guts of a WE motor, but it should be similar to this one:
In the "E-Scooter and Motorcycle General Discussion" Forum there is a thread "Cleaned My EVT hub motor out" that has great pictures. There is also a reference to "www.7gen.com/book/my-ev-projects/cleaning-evt-hub-motor/701" that shows details using a gear puller to seperate the motor parts. On a spoked hub I should be able to hook onto the spoke flange instead of forcing the cover off a little and hooking onto the cover. Since everything is working good right now I'll probably just order a few sets of brushes from WE and be prepared.
