Hi guys, first time posting, latelly I've been thinking and thinkering with li-ion batteries and across my mind came the idea of repurposing 2 10s6p scooter bateries into a 16s6p battery for an ebike, my question is if it's safe to just get rid of 4 paralel groups on one of the batteries and then join them and connect a 16s bms or alternativelly joining them first (20s) and then cutting off 4s.

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm new to this stuff and seccond guessing is better than putting out fires :)

There's no point in working with higher voltages than necessary, I suggest that you discharge both to around 31-32V, That's under 30% SOC and reduces chance of fire should you short circuit a cell, Then work on one pack. Remove its BMS and separate your 6S section, Remove the BMS on the other 10 pack. Now connect them together and attach a new 16S BMS.
