Using resistors in series , Can 60 volts step down to 6 volts.
If So what are the pros and cons And why would someone spend $50 or so For a step down converter When they could Use one or 2 resistors in its place ?

does the thing that uses 6 volt always use EXACTLY the same current and is that power less then a few watts?

if not then you cant use a resistor.

Converters actually convert the energy, can be very efficient if you hit the V/A sweet spot for a given design. May claim 90+%, more like 80-85% IRL.

Resistors just burn it off, in that case vast majority would be wasted as heat.

If it even worked, which it won't.

It will depend on how much current it runs at. To power a tiny LED, a resistor is fine. For a LED headlight, the amount of heat the resistor needs to throw off becomes a problem.

If you tell us what the load would be, we can do the math and calculate the heat.

The other issue is if the load is variable, a resistor won't give a steady output.
