My first e-bike mumble years back was a 5speed Euro Powabyke. The performance was not stellar (something like 180W and 3 x 12V 12AH SLA) but enough to get me started and soon upgraded to the Trk60455/Heinzmann combo I've used for years.
Well, the Trek was stolen last month; the Powabyke SLAs had long since died, but thanks to the generosity of a colleague who was clearing out some junk, I now have a 36V 10AH NiMH pack on board.
What a difference! Hardly any volt drop, according the LED S.O.C. meter (which is pointless for estimating remaining capacity now, of course) only the top LED flickers under maximum load.
With the lighter, better battery (and that I've lost 100 lbs in weight in the meantime!) the old Powabyke is very sprightly indeed! 10AH NiMH looks to at least double the effective range, compared to the old SLA.
Working on my replacement bike now, fullsize Dahon folder with a Puma and 36V A123 pack.
I also have, again thanks to the same generous colleague, a Currie kit mounted on a 26" wheel and an old Crystalyte likewise (though the Crystalyte needs the wires replacing/repairing), one of which will go into a conventional bike with a far bigger battery for long range, the folder is just for short range stuff.
Is there any UK source of torque arms for front hubs, or do I have to DIY?
