Share your experience with Hobbyking 150A car ESC

Hello again!

After my build of 10S dual SK3-6364 mountainboard. I decided to build an e-scooter. It will be running on 6S, since my budged is limited this time. I'm going to use a bit smaller motor SK3-6354 with 260KV, geared 1:4 on 200mm wheel. This is where I need your help. Should I buy HobbyKing's 150A High performance Brushless Car ESC or not?

What is your experience with this ESC with similar motor running on 6S? Is electric brake usable? Any burned ESC?

Go 10S

It's decent, braking does make a lot of noise though. Some people burn it out but it's because they dogged it out and/or pulled more amps then recommended.

It's a recommended esc though.

The HK150 Car ESC was the first ESC for my longboard, had problems right from the start with it not wanting to start up with a 6S battery.. Got no help from HK support.
Ended up running it on 5S until it broke down all of a sudden after 2 months. Went with the FVT 120A ESC and I like it a lot more, quiet breaking, runs cool without the fan and its really small.

Highly recommend the FVT instead!

I just hope doing 60kph with an e-scooter isn't as scary as with an e-mb. Ok story time. It was a pleasant warm summer day, exactly the one anyone would expect a riding day to be. I rode to a forest near my house and I had a lot on fun riding as always. After that I decided to head home about 3/4 discharged. I have about 1.5km of asphalt road between my house and forest where I ride. So I was heading home on that road going about 40kmh when I decided it would be smart to get home real quick because I was all dirty and I didn't want to draw much of attention. Well when doing that 60kph something went wrong. I crashed the living shit out of myself on an asphalt road. After few minutes I got my shit back together, got to my board that was lying 10m ahead checked the damage on it, realized nothing is broken (we are talking some good quality build here :lol: ), and then drove home. Looking at the blood on the board I would say I lost about 0.1L of blood. The board was all messed up with blood from my arm like it was in a Rambo movie.



Ok back on topic. So any suggestion for good 10S ESC with breaks?

Update: I think i will go with this alien esc.


Thanks for the FVD recommendation, if I decide to go 6S this will be my choice. It's also cheaper than HK.

TBH - I'd hate to talk down on things and hate on other products but this is an open forum and we are all looking for the best quality components.

I would highly advise against the APS ESC's. You can do research and find out others who have done amp tests and high amp ratings and the ESC's don't perform as they should.

I also myself have sold these same ESC's and their are countless issues with them. I have a box of 15-20+ ESC's all broken which I have also replaced for some customers.

I would recommend the 12S ESC which I have on my website below which I have been testing lately. It's been working real well and using the LCD Programmer makes it definitely convenient to program ESC to your own specific comfort.

I would also recommend the VESC but it is a bit more complicated as to program it you would need a Linux box and program the ESC for your specific motor. However, it's by far one of the best ESC's - it's just a lot more leg work and harder to obtain unfortunately.

I have put about 15 miles on mine. It's seems ok but I don't really have anything to compare it to.

That being said I have to be very gentle with the throttle or I get cogging. Obviously happens more accelerating from slow speeds or stop but I had a cogging issue today when I increased throttle when I was already going 10mph or so.

Not so fun to have the board cog on you and throw you off like that.

Not sure if that is the ESC or if I just need to try some different settings though.

I guess I've been lucky with my escs then, have 4 fvt 120a and all have been working fine.

Yes, there are a lots of better escs out there! But for the price (40usd) and if you're running a 6s setup then I think it's a excellent choice and better then the hobbyking in my experience.
