Ahoy Silent Rollers! My first post, soooo...... Let me introduce myself, I'm a man of opportunity, knowledge and self-faith. Mad go-fast skills, physical talent and innovative fabrication abilities have enhanced my time here on Mother Earth......and earned me a pile of iron, cause we all know you'll always spend it all racing to win! I have competed in BMX, AMA Moto-X, East Coast Enduro Association, USSA Sking, MTB, road bicycle, Mickey Thompson East- Buggies, SCORE- Buggies & Moto CC and more. So WTH, let's go silent! Built my first e-bike in April, found this freakin' awesome forum full of super-smart,talented, really cool, out of the bounds of reality thinkers shortly after..... realizing that I'm surely out-gunned here, I seized the opportunity by lurking and learning, lurking and learning even more absorbing the wealth of knowledge written here. I Thank-You All, Carpe-Diem!
I feel with my backround in dynamic frame & chassis design/build and hucking abilities, I can contribute some knowledge to this forum there. Frankly, I would be embarrassed of my e-power knowledge, there are a lot of ES members who are pioneers leading the world to a better way. I respect their knowledge and talent. My goal is building a light snappy flickable e-hucking weapon, with pilot aboard, balanced horizontally & vertically (zero-zero) somewhere above the knees, preferably closer to the crotch. I guarantee and know from experience that's the only way to throw 3D hucks on anything with 2 wheels. My first e-build achieved this, but with 2" of shitty suspension, a Nitro Circus style engineered ramp is required for rotation. Slappy not happy bout that, so I started looking at the current stable of high-dollar e-tech frames. And this damn TV theme kept ringing in my head....."Flintstones, meet the Flintstones, were a prehistoric family!" I think technology is improving and I really liked the Zero motorcycles if I wanted to go road or DS, but the off-road frame builders lost me. Hey, run what you brung and fits your riding style, but you won't see me on a $10,000 shipping box that somebody welded a head tube, bottom bracket and 2-point swing-arm to. When I was a 14 year old farmboy, I built my first VW Buggy chassis using square tubing cause it was easy to cut & weld. It was heavy, slow and made me piss alot! Learned real quick, square is for stationary building stability, round is for rocket fast.
So, being a sponsored rider, I accumulated a pretty good collection of NOS stuff in my barn. Dug out a new 2006 Titus Super-Moto DH frame with a 4-point swing-arm and Fox DH-4 coil-over 9.75" suspender. Blast from the past custom 10.75" Dan Hannebrink dual-crown super-stiff POS fork that only has 1 lap on it at 24 Hours of Killington MTB event before I pitted and switched back to a Mars 888 (might be ok for heavier e-bike)? And some more goodies to build an improved 50-60 lb, 72 volt zero-zero e-hucker. I'll post some pics soon for your criticism.... be harsh, I can take it.
So back to the subject of this post, I just laced a 4065 clyte in a Sun-Ringle MTX-33 rim (brass inserts) using 13-14 sapium spokes. They came with thin brass washers for the flange. It's fine now, but the threads are almost maxed out. So I am looking for thicker brass washers for the nipples to compensate for stretch. Any advice on a source? Are spherical washers available to match the nipples? I searched the forum but couldn't get no satisfaction. I don't want to use pop-rivets or steel washers, cause I don't roll like that. It affects my psych if somethings not right...... Any Help?
