Test suntour hesc 4pin torque sensor

Hi, I am trying to repair a friend's Carrera Vengeance ebike. Pretty sure it is the torque sensor. It is a 4 wire sensor and have tested measuring from both sensor wires to negative whilst turning crank. There is no change in voltage with either staying about 4.5 v with a 5v input.Know with a 3 wire cadence sensor that shows a faulty sensor and presume same with 4 wire torque sensor but just checking with you clever guys. Could you just confirm or otherwise.Thanks Rob
 
Thanks . Think I will have to buy and hope it is the sensor. Wondered if the testing was the same as for a cadence sensor IE when turning crank voltage between negative and one of the sensor wires dips and rises. I tested and it stayed constant about 2v I think.( Forgotten as did it a week ago) I have removed the sensor and physically looks fine. Tried testing by passing a magnet over sensor but again does not effect voltage between sensor and negative .
 
I think cadence sensors are normally paired, latching hall sensors. So it's very easy to get them to make big, square voltage change graphs as long as the magnet passes in the right direction to not cancel out the signal. You can even detect voltage changes with a super slow, averaging meter like a multimeter.

I've never used that torque sensor before, but the ones I have used are quite different. The voltage varies in mV, not full volts, and doesn't latch. Example graph from the datasheet of one I have used:

More like oscilloscope territory. I've heard some don't even output voltage, but rather just a tiny resistance change measured by a Wheatstone bridge.

Thanks, that seems to show a dip of 2v but as you say may be just that particular type of sensor. Have contacted madbicycle spares for advice as well. Seems a lack of info on testing Torque sensors generally.
 
Are you sure it even has a torque sensor? The page says otherwise:


Sometimes four wires are used for cadence sensors to detect direction of pedaling.
