Ottawa had the next highest number of fatalities (2.7) followed by Edmonton (2.0).

Vancouver had the lowest number of annual cycling fatalities, with an average of 0.7. Winnipeg and Calgary had the next lowest (tied at 1.0).

Montreal, meanwhile, had the highest number of annual cycling fatalities (3.7)

“This may in part explain why Toronto has the highest rate of “Door Prizes” (a crash where a motorist in a parked car opens a door in front of an oncoming bike) of any jurisdiction studied,” the coalition says.

Drivers and passengers should be taught everywhere to open the door with the hand farthest away from the door. That way when you go to open the door you are naturally looking behind.

another murder here the other day. young guy who runs the Reed college bike coop was going through an intersection with the light in his favor and tow truck driver turned right in front of him and he collided head on with the tow truck. he was wearing a helmet and died on the spot.

no charges filed even though the driver failed to yield, all to beat the last millisecond of the amber light.

and there another one about 18 blocks away with a left turn into cyclist about 3 weeks ago that cost the guy his left leg. driver has like 4 previous reckless driving citations but still allowed to drive. he was trying to beat the light too in a big pickup truck.

this is all on streets i drive.

they have to chain the ghost bike to the telephone pole or the meth heads will steal it for scrap metal. what a memorial to an uncaring and negligent bike hating public.

portland is a bike town and many harbor hatred of those who ride bikes and could care less if they hit them since the cops do not do anything. except ticket bicyclists for jumping a stop sign or red light when it is safest.

always assume the driver is on the phone or radio like this tow truck driver. the kid was going downhill too so i am sure he had good speed, bike was separated from the front fork, it woulda been a combined 40-50mph head on collision.
