Hi there folks,

Does anyone have experience, or opinions they'd like to share, on the 2013 Manitou R7 MRD fork (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ca/en/manitou-r7-mrd-forks-2013/rp-prod57823 the fork would coming from a LBS here on the wet coast not from Chain Reaction Cycles). I can get a pretty good deal (around 225 CAD) on a new one. Before I pull the trigger though, I thought I'd throw it out there and see what comes back.

For context it'd be going on:
Mental Manno frame (from Neptronix)
TC-80 motor (from Justin)
21S10P of LiFePO4 (from Cellman)

Thanks.

I was looking at those myself the other day. I just blew out my cherished bomber fork seals.

It's not going to ride with the finesse of today's $1000 forks. Unless you are a racer or extreme rider, I fail to see why you need to spend that much.

Though a cheapie by todays standards, this still looks like a very nice fork to me. It should have all the extra adjustability you tend to want when used on ebikes. I find the typical fork adjustments I would use on a pedal bike are quite different for an ebike. To make it short, you f up the balance of the bike with the electric stuff weight. Then try your best to adjust back to ok ish. It may need to be extra stiff on one end of the bike or the other. I try to make a bike bunny hop evenly on the shocks. Not real sophisticated, but I don't want a bike that is too soft on one end. If you run hardtail, then you might want to run a little stiffer up front.

So air adjustable is my preference in both shocks for sure. This is an entry level priced air shock. Buy it, unless you have a lot of money for better.

This fork came out on the market at 1000$ and soon you will be able to find one brand new for 100$
Guess why

Cuz fork prices can be a big rip off, just like cameras?

So, they break down fast? or just aren't that great. Surely it still beats a pogo stick that can't be adjusted far enough for ebike use.

What do you need out of the fork? Will you ride like you are Mad Rhino? I thought it wasn't such a good fork for an extreme rider. I meant buy it if you can't afford better, and you just need it for smoothing out streets at 35 mph.

Thanks guys. Dogman was right. I need it to smooth out the street at, ahem, the legal limit.

Cost is always a factor. No need to spend cash needlessly.

Exactly, it will be good on the street.
New suspension components are developed every year, very few of them become a success and retain their value. Components are judged severely by the racing crowd. If it doesn't pass the racing test to become a favorite, it quickly becomes cheap junk.
