Using wood for custom bicycle frames?

I just found this article on Gizmag dot com talking about a company that's making custom bicycles and frames from wood, ninety percent of the performance of carbon fiber for about ten percent of the cost..

My brother has a very advanced hobbyist woodworking shop, something like this would be right up his alley..

It seems to me that particularly for custom ebike frames wood might be the way to go.. You could make a frame that housed batteries, controller, even the motor if you are using an RC type setup.
