Please comment/vote. YES or NO.

E-skateboards & E-scooters are not really similar at all when you think about design. So why are they in the same sub-category?

Scooters are more like bikes. Single motors. Hub motors. Two wheels. Grip throttle.....

Electric skateboards are in a world of their own.... and it seems like majority of post in here are about skateboards anyway....

Should they have their own seperate category on the Endless Sphere Forum?

Style wise, I feel the standup scooter is the sibling sister. Whereas the skateboard is the sibling brother. I've seen them both on a half pipe and they both rip. :twisted:

IMO, no.

My point is that if you only had knowledge on how to build a scooter and then you applied that knowledge to build a skateboard (and vice-versa) you would be left with unanswered questions. They are different enough subjects to mean that 80% of the information we share on ES about electric skateboards would be mostly useless (or perhaps even detrimental) to the scooter builder starting out, specifically topics such as;
* Gearing/ Reduction ratios.
* Motors.
* Motor mounting.
* Trucks.
* Wheels sizes, duro.
* Top speeds.
* Max hill climbing gradients.
* Throttle control.
* Riding technique.
* Parts Suppliers.
* Individual Build threads.
* Brakes. Braking techniques.
* Veichle weight.
* Range.
* General design discussion.
* Laws

These topics and probably several others don't directly cross over between the different EV genres.

So for a new member trying to find info about how to build their first scooter I think it would be VERY confusing and potentially VERY difficult to find the info they need. This is because many people create threads in the scooter/skateboard category and don't specifically say if they are referring to skateboard or scooters.

Yes.

They both have wheels and bearings, and require balance, but that's where the similarities end. A scooter is the sibling of the bicycle. A skateboard is the sibling of the surfboard. They are very different. I get e-mountain boards and e-skateboards being in the same forum... But even they are quite different. My 2 cents.

My e-scooter weights more than twice my e-skateboard, and is 20% less powerfull - e-scooters are claimed to be foldable, but only latest models can really claim to be portable (weight) - e-scooter always have mechanical brakes: you can get along with plane or boat esc.
e-skateboard have always been portable and light, who cares if it's foldable ? they never get mechanical brakes initially - you don't steer a skateboard, it's tilting... giving a sub category to E-sjkateboard would lead to a e-scooter subcategory : win-win

Maybe divide them into sub sections like bb drive bikes and hub motor bikes.

That being said, the electrics are the same, so why not keep them together? Does either one benefit from being separated? Do you want to check 2 sections for innovation in electronics?

Bicycles and Scooters are very similar. Skateboards have no similarities with either of them.

Yes. Why not. It would be easy for the mods to do this. And if someone wants the other info they can go to that other forum.
