I am looking for a motor that will push my 500lb trike up the the worst hill in town , about 16% for 50 ft before it starts leveling out, ...at about 5mph.

The rpm's that I need at 5mph is 100ish? (with the 20" drive wheel.) but I also need it to do about 300 rpms on level ground, for a speed around 15 to 20mph max.

I will try to calculate this more difinitivly over the next couple days before I can get back here agian....

I know one person using this motor http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.eng.mu.edu/crovettj/ses/lib/motors/brigs/Etek_motor_pic.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.eng.mu.edu/crovettj/ses/lib/motors/brigs/&h=284&w=300&sz=16&tbnid=l3JU71t1nC8FxM:&tbnh=110&tbnw=116&prev=/images%3Fq%3Detek%2Bmotors&hl=en&usg=__pWo82UipuLiUgjdHRA3sQoj3rII=&sa=X&ei=YjcNTImSJpW4NfrgoLYE&ved=0CDQQ9QEwBg
but the chart says its just too fast...

I need a one that runs at about 1800 rpm but that has enough torque at around 100rpm....IS THERE SUCH A MOTOR?

I can use a jack axle to reduce the rpms a bit but there is not much room. http://commutercycling.blogspot.com/2007/10/ez3-usx-trike-users-guide.html

I hope this is not too carazy for you guys.

I'd go stokemonkey style, but use a higher power hubmotor. Check it out. If you can cycle up that hill, a stokemonkey style drive can do it too.

Search stokemonkey in the top right corner, seek ye and ye shall find.

Yeah, that's pretty steep for 500 pounds. Something driving through the chain like a stokemonkey setup would work best. Unless that much work is too much for the chains and gears.

For lighter weight bikes, I found my 9 continent 6x10 works pretty good that way, going slow 5-10 mph up pretty steep stuff. But I think 500 pounds up steep stuff would choke even the best direct drive hubmotors.

But a low enough winding 5300 series crystalyte might do it, with enough battery for it. $$$$$$$. I don't know if they make a 5308 or anything wound that slow.
