So ebay is full of volt and other meters of various standard sizes. I've used a couple and am always struggling with mounting them. Sometimes I'd like to simply surface mount them, but I cannot find ready made little housings. Anyone have a source for same? Thanks.

You could just order one that already comes in a waterproof case:

If you look at the last photo in their listing, it's still a flush-mount meter needing to be mounted in a hole in something.

I've seen these meters and worried about the same thing so always buy one with the mounting fascia. Does your meter supplier not supply these as a separate item?
It's a while since I looked but I did see them but can't remember where but the price wasn't any cheaper than for a meter with the case. It's easier because the meters come in many different sizes- digit height, number of digits. Why not price a meter that comes in fascia- the price may make your effort a bit pointless. Standard 0.56" voltmeters are under $2 on ebay with facsia. You don't say what your meter is/does but if it is a more expensive type such as dual display then you could always get the cheapest same sized one and swap your dispay into it.

I also have the same question. Thanks for the advice. Could somebody please suggest some simple and good ways to cut the opening for the meters?
