First off, i am wondering why the controller on my scooter is 60V 80A when the battery pack and charger is 72V ? I would like to be certain that the motor i have really is a 4000W or a 3500 or 5000W. I have heard that the motor from the 5000W and 4000 should be the same, so now when my controller has gone dead, i might aswell buy a 72 volt controller and get more power?!

How to test? Or is it written somewhere?

The voltage rating on the controller may be 60v, but that may relate more to the low voltage cutoff setting than how many volts it can take. I'd say replace with a similar amperage controller in 72v. A 72v controller shoud be good for about 60v-90v.

Where to get one I don't know for sure. Most bikes use 20-40 amp models. E crazyman is a good ebay controller guy.

I put an XM3500 motor and controller on an ebike that weighed 104lbs total. I went a bit too far with my controller mods, but I had that same controller running at 82V off the charger with a 74V nominal battery and 130amps. That's well over 11,000 watts input to the motor, and I'm sure it would have survived fine at 8kw. If you really want performance, take the battery, motor, and controller and run it on a much lighter strong ebike platform. You can easily modify your controller to do similar with just some copper wire and solder, and as long as you don't have hills to contend with it will survive fine even pushing that heavy pig scooter.

The alternative is to spend $600-1000 on a higher power Kelly controller. If you decide to go that route instead, I'll buy the controller you have for $185 that will help defray the new controller costs. Just send me a PM.

EDIT- As part of the mods, I would also suggest installing the lowest profile 13" scooter tire you can find, which will decrease the OD of the wheel and increase performance.

I know that you can give a 60v rated motor 70 volts, but i will start by finding out what this motor is rated at before i begin tuning :)
