Hello, this is my first post, so in any case excuse me for lack of proper knowledge if I missed something.

I want to construct an electric bike using legal (in Europe) engine sizes. The frame will be customized (28" front, 20" rear) and I would like to put the engine in the rear wheel. As far as I know I must use the versions offering high rpm (because of small wheel) that is eg 328rpm. I have been looking for different types of them and so far I have 2 propositions:

or http://www.greenbikekit.com/electric-motor/rear-bldc/bafang-swxh-bldc-hub-engines.html

Please if any of you have any experience with above hub motors and let me know which one to choose and why. And also I am interested how do they behave with continuous assistance, do they overheat fast ?

Kind Regards!

The Bafang doesn't come is the high-speed version you need. "260" is a mid-speed motor.

If the Volts are held to 48V, the Q100 will not "over-heat" in a 20" whl.

Choose the higher rpm one for 20" wheel. You said legal motor, not legal speed. Even if you do ride legal speed most of the time, it will be good to have more at times. In a 20" wheel, it won't be so fast you stick out like a hot rodder. You should be able to get away with riding 30 kph a lot of the time, so build for it to be possible.

Over heating is always possible, it just takes enough weight. But you don't weigh 150kg right? 20" wheel, running 25 kph on only moderately steep hills, normal rider, it cannot overheat that way.

Thank you very much. The frame including battery and engine is supposed to weight 10-15kg + driver max. 120kg // Personally I am 75kg so under me it won't definitely struggle //

So thank you very much for response, I will just go with GBK. Just one question - I am looking for a bottle-battery, but here in Netherlands it rains a lot. Do you know any bottle batteries which would be waterproof ? Or any solution to that case ?

I've seen people mount the bottle battery up-side down in an effort to prevent water ingress, but the fact is, Ebike system can be made water resistant, but water-proof.
You might want to look at the "anti-water" kits from MXUS;

Although I would contact the factory directly;

The best advice I have seen for riding in the wet comes from the experienced riders in England. They recommend wearing a large poncho and draping it over as much of the Ebike as possible.
