a new Casio EX E12 "HD" minicam to replace my old red Casio version that offered only "SD" video.
It is about the size of a pack of cigarettes, but half as thick. It's tiny!

ex-s12gn_xlarge.jpg

=These things do not zoom while filming
=Best for reasonably bright daylight
=640x480 15fps for SD present day YT uploads, and optional, 24fps 720P, for "HD" YT already available today.
=Neither model can auto-refocus whilst filming. Just set it for "infinity focus" for bike rides?
=Then four feet, or so, out to infinity, is in quite good-enough focus if the light is strong.
=Takes good still shots for such a tiny thing. The usual 'barrel distortion'.
=Three x optical zoom. I need no more than that, or even that kind of zoom.
=Cost $187US delivered, from Amazon.com

It is an adjunct: a bike-ride camera that captures mono sounds quite well.

=Here is a first sample, of the Casio EX S12, a very first try, from atop a solar-hot-foot roof!
=The tripod isn't rock solid; neither am I. Am weak and shaky. Should not be on the roof, ever.
It's just a test. Then we see the older camera, which offers only "SD" (standard YT definition)

"HD" of sorts, if you press the "HD" button in the player below.
This is no semi-pro grade camera, but it will take G-shocks, and even rain, if you Saran-Wrap!

Here's a vid of a few weeks ago, "SD" from the predecessor, an EX S770 of about two years age:

A bit less clear? Does it matter it matter that our videos can become much clearer
FUTURE SHOCK: all this that we consider passable today, will be a JOKE to people of just a few years from now,
when broadband of high speed will be UNIVERSAL, and so, YT will, later, as average service speeds increase,
they, YT, will further de-compress high quality files
that they now accept,
up to TWO gigabites per ten minutes of running time! Fuzzy videos of today, such as above will be as like poor jokes
to our progeny of five or ten years from today. Predictions of Things to Come!
(my first cousin, Drew)

The two Casio cameras are nearly twins, other than the "HD" capability of the new E12 model,
which operates so similarly. This "HD" is nothing so good as you can get from a true, big-buck HD camcorder.

WMM was used to edit the raw footages, made for this place:

AIM: clearer, better bike ride videos!

September 18th, the E12 hasn't arrived yet, so the old Casio EX-S770 had to serve.
It was good enough. This genre of minicam has a pinhole-sized mic on the FRONT:
excellent for capturing the narrator's voice, and all sounds in front. Some mincams
put their inbuilt mic atop, which is a bad location for catching audio other than from the narrator
or from birds above  . But, the Casio brand, at least, has decent audio for 8bit mono.
The front mount pinhole offers, too, a bit of "cupped hand" or "ear flap" sound pressure zone effect.
A front mic is the only way to go with a digicam that's hamstrung by lack of a giant, ugly, external "shotgun mic".

No edits, no fakery, that is his first pedal stroke since the fall of 1948!

Our neighbors are the best people. I did not expect such good timing!
Note how well the old red Casio's front mic, picks up the relatively distant voices?
Try that with a Panasonic TZ5A and you'd get this:

(r.w. sounds like elmer fudd, even under ideal conditions)

TIP for any embed playback press the "HQ" button for the best image quality of this standard (YT) def. recording?
TIP if SD looks "good enough for me", remember that many people don't look at postcard sized playbacks, but go for full screen.
Type "Star Trek" into your YT search bar and see the original series put up again from the original master films, by CBS. Stunning
in full screen on a big monitor.

Now, later when a replacement cam-to-computer cable arrives (I stepped on the old one's end, crushing it, arrgh!),
you can then see what "real" "HD" can looks like on YT today: almost, nearly, broadcast quality afforded by a Canon HV30;
and if its tape is played on the TV (no YT compresssion), it looks just about as good as any HD television broadcast: simply from old-school hd tape-based video.

The newer cameras are all going to highly compressed, complex codec "H.264.." and "ACH..." systems, that, to my eyes are inferior for motion video;
they "jerk". The old and new mini Casios still use the now-outmoded "motion jpeg avi", which is WMM friendly, and easy and fast to edit.

What did Ernie look like at H.S. graduation time, in June of 1948?

See you all there at EFFFO? I have so many strong friends here at E.S...oh, dudes, I love E.S.

Sleepless in Miami edit: removed some potentially upsetting screed; second thoughts....JRH and Gason understand.
We all "go off" at times.

The ties that bind are the ties we love!

I love E. S. forever!

And, thank you, E. S. parents: EFFO is New Born to-day:

WHY?

Because of Michael Brown, fechter, and owing to about one thousand members here,
that is why!

Have a cigar, on me, the "daddy"?

How about a fine blunt? Take as many as you like?

NOT JINGOISTIC: Berlin came here from afar, from Repression,
and wrote this signature song precisely for our premier pop songstress

This is a terrible, truly terrible home made sort-of-review, partial, of the new Casio EX E12.
It is so much like my old red Casio, but does "HD". The video is just made.
The garage I live in is a disgrace to show. I don't care.

Maybe tomorrow I can get some good outdoor shots, comparing the old "SD" Casio, with the new "HD" Casio.
IN FULL SCREEN, the differences are noticable. This is not a "high end" HD camera.

As stated in the video, I did not make this with intention to publish.
But it offers some utility value for camera shoppers. Bike videos are in all of our futures.
Still pictures and words, are...static things. Here is the worst video I've ever essayed:

Press the "HD" button or it won't be anything like "HD" at all:

apologies again for the stopped-up nose and lousy-everything.

More and better of this camera will come!
