    The end of BionX?

I'm a small but longtime Bionx dealer. Bionx unveiled lower wholesale pricing for mid 2017 and later pre season orders as well as open stock through Bionx Ca or Hawley (their US distributor). They had planned to announce a $500 retail price cut on all kits on March 1 2018 which allowed current...

    SHOPS THAT INSTALL KITS HELP!!

When I installed mine on a BD bike, I had to spend about 30 minutes with a half round file to remove aluminum from the inside of the shell. I think during welding the center of the shell sagged a bit (best I could tell). This prevented the bafang from sliding through. Some careful file work...

NOOBIE HERE. Electric Motor Kit Reccomendation?

    48V20AH NiCoMn battery from GreenBikeKit.com for BBS02

I'm not an expert, but that looks really small for a claimed 20ah pack.

    Saluki - wheel lacing

The rim is double drilled. 64 holes, two rows of 32. All spoke holes in the hub are used, only half of what's in the rim.

    Saluki - wheel lacing

Lacing to one side allows both drive and non drive spokes to exit the hub flanges at an angle towards the centerline of the hub while also offsetting the rim 28mm to the non drive side. This moves the cassette (Freehub) outside of the confines of the 100mm wide rim (and even wider tire) such...

Why is my BionX so buggy?

The weakest link in the Bionx system is their throttle and the tiny wires it uses. They get pulled or pinched and have connectivity issues. I would suggest two things: 1). If the shop has the Bionx Bike Interface (hardware/software tool) have them update your system to the newest version. 2)...

    Saluki - wheel lacing

It's a Surly Moonlander frame. It has an offset rear (28mm) as engineered and required by the necessity of keeping the chain clear of the tire while still being able to hit all the cogs on the cassette (and still use a 135mm wide hub). You can't just put a 135mm hub in the center of a 4.8" wide...

    New build, need advice

Nobody except [some] electric people know what CST means. Post count aside, let's use standard nomenclature.

Strongest chain and cogset for 7-speed middrive bke?

One of the nicer freewheels out there will be the IRD Defiant freewheels. For chains I like the SRAM PC850 or PC870.

    New build, need advice

I googled CST. This term seems to only be used in reference to electric hubs. Nobody in the bike industry would know what CST means, other than the brand CST, which is short for Cheng Shin Tire. The most common nomenclature is a cassette hub or freewheel hub. Here's a Sunrace 9 speed...

    New build, need advice

I'm a bike mechanic, and I can tell you CST means nothing to me. The industry standard terms for a non freewheel rear, is either Freehub (the piece mounted to the hub which accepts the cassette, or rear gears, if you will), or Cassette. The two wheel types are Freewheel and Freehub (or Cassette...

    New build, need advice

Hmm, there may be some folks that can recommend DIY builds, but this is the only complete kit I know of in that price range: http://www.electric-bike-kit.com/hill-topper.aspx, the $599 kit has a lithium battery.

    New Bafang Crank-Drives

Bafang dealers with the bafang software can program the controller to lower the maximum amp draw a bit. This doesn't affect performance notably, but does increase the life of the controller, from what I've been told.

    '91 Rockhopper seem right?

Old steel mountain bikes make excellent e-bike frames, IMO. For hill climbing, I do believe a geared hub motor would be a better choice than direct drive. Alternatively, a mid drive (powered crank) uses the bicycle's drivetrain and thus gives you the full range of gears at the rear.

Bafang BBS02 on a BikeE RX recumbent

Maybe you just ended up with a faulty component somewhere? Checked all your connections? Check the fuse in the battery? I do know that Lectric, using their dealer software, does lower the maximum amp draw from their higher wattage kits so as to prevent controllers from burning up if someone...

    Lipo failure

Everyone with an ebike should have a fire extinguisher rated for an electrical fire, that's one with a C rating. I keep one of these handy: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00002ND64/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00002ND64&linkCode=as2&tag=bookrecommendati

    Epic rim failure. Why?

As a bike mechanic, my opinion is that ebikes need fatter tires in general. Especially as speeds increase. Larger air volume decreases the spike loads from hitting pavement lips, curb edges, potholes, etc. Ebikes also need to be inspected regularly. If indeed there was galvanic corrosion at the...

    Recommended MTB frame for BBS02

Locknut goes on non drive side. My bike (attached in another reply) weighed 30# out of box. Probably dropped a couple pounds by removing the heavy single speed crank and bb. With the BBS02 + 11.6ah battery it's 48# I think. There are adapters for the BBS02 that allow the use of a standard...

Marathon Plus Tour, not so flat less...

In the end it comes down to bad luck. The MPT's have gone across country without a flat, but some people can't get across town on em. As a bike mechanic I've seen failures from large pieces of glass or sharp metal shards that simply cut right through. There's no bicycle tire that is resistant to...

Components of a High Speed Fat Tire Electric bike

I prefer the 29x3 (called 29+) tire size over 26x4 fat bikes. Notably lighter tire/rim combo and larger diameter = smoother ride. http://images.craigslist.org/00g0g_5kSLWptfYqy_600x450.jpg Bike is 30# stock, mid drive kit adds less than 20#. Running single speed. 44 x 18T. Flat where I live...
