Lighting for an eBike

Hi Team,

I am in the planning stages of my first eBike.

Considering that the bike will ride at about 35km/22mph (or more if I am pedaling) this means when riding at night, probably need to have better lights.

Looking for something that would run off my 42v or 48v on board batteries. Alternatively a separate battery for the light. Want bright and far reaching/throw of light.

Thanks

There's been a discussion of this in this thread:

I've been happy with my relatively inexpensive solution which I describe in this thread:

Although I think the new high-output white LED systems are neat, I'm still not completely convinced on the economics of them. But there's a good discussion of LED vs. halogen in the thread above.

I think two 24V halogens are a bright economical solution. For example, these bulbs are $3 each:

I can't give any links to places in Australia - but definitely large marine stores commonly stock 24V systems. I would call around. Large sailboats tend to run on 24V (12V requires too thick wiring for higher output devices on large/long vessels).

All the links you need in one <A HREF="http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=110">PLACE</A> plus a <A HREF="http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=246">BONUS</A>.

Go for the Busch & Muller thousand dollar Big Bang that I linked to.
If you wanna have the throw, you gotta pony up the dough.
Plus I'm looking for someone else to try it on for size.
Yeah, someone else, that's the ticket. :D

Thanks Guys. I tried searching for Bike Lighting, but got lots of hits making it difficult to find what I was looking for. I think a lot of hits got returned due to peoples signatures.

Have checked out some of the links you provided. The 5 watt LED seems amazing.

i use the trail tech 30w hid for $150 and it produces the same 1850 lumens as a car halogen high beam.

you need 14v or so at 30w. several people can supply switching converters, including me.

the cateye el500 led light i have is pretty good but it is only 10% as bright as the hid. i carry plenty of batteries and i go fast, so this light is the only choice that made sense to me.

Windrider

I have my original hardtail ebike back together temporarily - you're welcome to pop over and take a look.

It also has four 12v 20w halogens in series as headlights. They, umm, work :)
