It's 1/4 thick 6061 alu that supported 2 x 3.5lbs brushed motors, mounts and the horizontal bars. I would probably not go with 1/8, just 1/4 with big holes in the middle to make it lighter. Start with a few holes and then add more if needed.
As you can tell, these are not the MBS tires, they are wider. so the sprockets are pushed more inside, making the plate narrower than if I used MBS tires. Best to get 12" x 12" plate and cut it from there.
The L brackets I used are 1/8, but you have to use the horizontal bars or else they will bend.
