Hi,

I am planning to add a removable motor to my bike. My idea, is to make it pluggable into the chain, but for that, I need a very flat motor, that can fit between the wheel and the chain. I am not aiming to a lot of power, just to cruise easily. Are you aware of anything like that?

friction motors seem to be much smaller than mid motors, I dont know why.

Hi, motors for friction drive benefit from inherent mechanical advantage from driving the perifery of the wheel. So, they can be lighter duty.

I am setting up my homemade friction drive to use a 1 kg motor sold many years ago by Pittman. I bought it about twenty years ago because I've been tinkering with ebikes for that long and began contemplating designs ten years earlier than that. It is a brushed motor, and the highest quality motor that I have. So along those lines, consider a servo motor originally intended for industrial use.
