note that the brakes and tyres were garbage.

Mod list - bull horn bars, Tektro brakes calipers (still the wrong size), Shimano SPD mountain pedals, 2 speed sturmey archer rear hub, 1/2 link chain.
new 700x32C slicks with kevlar lining and thorn resistant tubes.
Ebike bits
11.6Ah 48V Samsung pack by EM3EV, 350W 16T MAC and 6 fet controller.
she cruises happily at 40km/h flat no pedaling.
so far little pedaling i get 12.5Wh/km, normal pedaling 7.25Wh/km.

Solar Panel as shown connects directly to the 48V pack no problems, BMS shuts it down when it reaches full charge at 56V or i pull it off at 54V.
Anyone interested its a First Solar FS-382 with 82.5W and VOC of 60V MPP voltage is about 50V hence early in charge cycle pumps in more , as batt voltage rises panel moves away from Max power point and charge current falls off.
at 56V there is only a handful of watts going in hence even if the BMS failed would be difficult to set fire to it :)

Will post some closer up pics as soon as i get the frame bag to hide all the ugliness of wiring loom.

Bike weight is about 18kg -under 40lbs and with me on it i'm good for 60km+ range at 40km/hr making it a good solution

Whats the price of the whole solar set up?

note that it is highly dependant on battery voltage to match with your panel.
The First Solar panel was pretty much a throw away so i paid nothing for it.
should be able to buy in the states easily for under $1 US/W. elsewhere shipping a killer

Anyone got any ideas for a disc brake front fork?

ran out of bakes today......guessing pads got HOT, was honkin downhill at 50km/h and needed to STOP in a hurry......got away with it but needs better braking option.
I hear welding tabs onto existing forks is a bad idea.....

It's a horrible idea considering the availability of disc ready forks and the inherent dangers of aluminum welding without proper post-weld heat treatment (annealing).

Save your time, buy a new fork with nice disc brakes. I suggest Shimano Zee for a great compromise between performance and price (If you buy them at the right places)

existing forks are hi-ten steel but still looking for a link to a 700c fork that costs less than a whole bike!

FYI- fried my watts-up by leaving it connected to the solar panel under no-load conditions with a pair of cold panels probably 63V
hence if anyone knows of a cheap wattmeter that is good for >60V i'm interested there too.
edit....thankyou Endless-sphere, found it on ebay bidding at $15 :)

Ok guys.
This is my first work. 24v 280w motor from scooter and 250w box controller. 4 batteries 12v 9ah. I used som simple tools from my garage to build it. Although the bike is working relatively good for me it is not enough. So finally I decide to share the pictures before to start a new project.

Looks great Jesse. What's the head tube angle? Have you measured it with a smartphone?

The bottom battery clips of so you can also run it as 13s 3p. 3kw. Using thunderpower 14s chargers it's done in an hour from flat too.

Got this bike for a deal on a local buy/sell/trade - He wanted $750, I offered $500 and got it.

Aluminum Rocky mountain Frame, 37v Li-Ion Battery, 350W hub motor, Bionx Gen 2 Console (1400km only!)
Im going to stick with the frame for this season. Switch it up next year.

I decided I didnt like the red on this bike. I went down to my local partsource and picked up some matte Black Plasti Dip

3 coats later, time to dry

The battery was pretty discolored, I designed a custom wrap made to look like a super mario bros bullet

Im happy with the results so far. Still have a few more things to pick up and switch out. Total cost so far $600 (bike/paint/wrap)

dude that is awesome, that battery paint job. Gives me some ideas.

Right on 8)

Just so you know its a vinyl wrap on the battery, I got it done at a vehicle wrap shop. It cost me $75 for the wrap.
What I really like about this bike is that for any reason I need to change the look of the bike quickly, I can peel of the plasti dip and wrap in about 1 min and have it look like the before picture. I love plasti dip!

Just matte black all the way (3 coats), I was thinking of putting a glossifier on or even a metalizer on top, but after thinking it through I think it looks better just having the battery really glossy. Draws attention to it.

How long did you wait for it to dry between each coat? and also how many plastidip cans did you use? thanks

2 cans I got on sale for $14 each. First coat with about 60% transparency just for a base coat. Because its still cold in canada I waited 35-40 min before applying another coat. Second coat was thicker and covered all the parts completely black, still waited about 40 mins, then applied the last one.
Here are some tips I learned from dipyourcar.com's youtube channel.
- keep about 5-6 inches away from the bike when spraying.
- shake the hell out of the can before use, or you will get clumps
- keep the can warm between coats (if its cold where you are), dont let it get cold.
- Do not spray upside down, only bad things will happen.
- watch your edges when you tape. if you let the dip dry on the tape, when you pull the tape off, the edge will peel off towards the painted parts.
