Well these $45 dollar 500w Wuxing motors I ordered to play around with and learn arrived after 20 days at sea. They were packaged really nice and have a killer logo painted on.

That doesn’t really mean anything but it doesn’t seem like they’d go that much trouble if they were total garbage.

Same exact size and shape as a Lectric motor and split on the opposite side. Interesting that the bulge out is also reversed so the freewheel will be much closer to the flange on the Wuxings.

Guess I can’t swap cores with these, even if I reversed the parts on the axle the motor would spin backwards no?

Got my Scorpio frames without any damage too. Hopefully they keep the de minimis rule in effect for as long as it takes for all my Ali stuff for the build to arrive 😬

I'm surprised that even china can make geared motors that big for $50.. did you get some kind of special deal on them?

It was on Alibaba and it was one of those no hassle things where you don’t have to talk to anyone to just buy the offer as shown. These are only 500w but it looked like I could have gotten 750w. I don’t have anything else on hand yet to try them out but it doesn’t seem like they could be that bad. The offer is still there.

Are they for "fat tire" ? It looks to wide for a regular tire/rim.Good score though

I can find nothing like that on Aliexpress by searching, could you post a link for us? Looks like a good price if they last a couple of seasons or more. (edit) Oops, you said Alibaba, would appreciate a direct link though.

Thanks

It’s 175mm but I have been lacing hubs this wide to 38mm BMX rims no problem. It’s easier on rims like Rant Squad where the profile is a little bit like a pyramid shape so the nipples seat more or less normally. This a 190mm hub motor with a 38mm rim and you can see the 175mm with a Rant rim over to the right further back. The Rant Rims are sort of budget BMX but they have a pretty impressive double wall 4 chamber extrusion with a center spline and can be gotten really cheap ($17) from Carson City Bike Shop.

Those rims with the holes are a little more flat across the center so I am going to try using 13g stainless spokes on the rear wheels on those that are a little more resilient and see what happens.

Oops I thought I had. They have 750w available too that you can just order without a whole bargaining session that you sometimes get sucked into when an offer like this seems a little too good to be true.

I still have to get a controller and display and see what happens lol. They have a 9 pin male plug on them.

Probably has a woodruff key that shears off on the first bump you hit. That's my experience with untested geared hubs.
Hmm I guess I’ll find out. I kind of figured these might be a learning opportunity with pretty low stakes so if I need to replace a key or gears that get mangled fast I don’t really mind.

Thank you for the link. Alibaba wants $68usd for shipping, so not a great price for me, but thanks for the info.
