Having thought some more (I do this slowly) the the "peak" on most scooter and motorbike lamps probably is there to achieve this shuttering effect http://s295.photobucket.com/albums/mm138/world_sport_way/motorcycle/?action=view¤t=2-901-1.jpg
??? if so then these can be bought for MR16...
sorry about that, one thought I have had it to add "shutters" to the light, probably translucent such that traffic can still see some light but not get blinded. Something like "barn doors" used in stage lighting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stage_lighting_accessories#Barn_doors I currently use...
@ TonyReynolds
sorry to say but i think you really underestimate LEDs, they are much more efficient than halogen and similar to HID.

I have a trike (very homebuilt) which ONLY has a rear brake, and at under 25mph it seems to be controllable, it's very wide and has a lot of weight on the rear wheel. with the rear wheel locked up it goes in a straight line but when cornering the results can be interesting. I can only assume...
a similar "mystery" esc has worked well on my bike. running cool most of the time, but going up steep hills the temperature has gone from a few degrees above ambient to about ~60+ in a very short space of time. I don't know how similar your set up is to mine but i would recommend a much bigger...
sorry for lack of communication for a very long time
thanks for the advise, the bike was up and working for a short while (~20miles) but one of the pulleys has started to slip, i will probably key it somehow. but this is by far the longest the bike esc has lasted :) i will update with pictures...
washing machines are filled with 5 amp relays, i have recently taken two apart and got hold of 5 each :), i think that microwaves, dishwashers and similar also may have relays of some kind. hope this helps.
i know this is a bit off topic but the motor i have used is a scorpion S-4025 its small - 2000w and i have had it fail. The stator(?) spun and ripped the wires shorting and killing one of the many esc's i have killed. the motor has been run very hot, i have since changed the gearing, this may be...
thanks for all the help guys
unfortunately i have GCSE exams in 3-4 weeks and i would like to do well, because of this i will have to rebuild the bike in "revision breaks", i will post a video if you want but It will be some time away because i have yet to order an ESC.

thank you for answering my questions, do you think i could include my watt meter still ?
i was thinking about sourcing the caps, do you think i could use the ones harvested from the dead esc's ? - i have 3

thanks for the help everyone, i will order a new esc and implement changes.

off topic but miles and gwhy you are both in the uk! i bet you both run at least multi kw setups, how do you find the bike laws in the uk? i have been trying to work out how a policeman could workout if your bike is overpowered, they don't carry amp meters do they  ???
should i gear my...
very interesting, i feel so stupid.
i live in th uk so anything local is better (it seems wrong to pay lots on postage for such a cheap part), will these caps work? - http://www.technobots.co.uk/acatalog/Low_Impedance_105_Deg_C.html
i also have a few caps harvested from various audio amps but...
thank you for the advice, my wires are about 1.5 meters from battery to esc but why would wire length change anything? the cable i am using is massive - rated at 100 amps
i will shorten then anyway, how short do you recommend?
my setup does include a freewheel clutch on on the output from...
