repetitive ESC failure on low power set up

thank you for answering my questions, do you think i could include my watt meter still ?

i was thinking about sourcing the caps, do you think i could use the ones harvested from the dead esc's ? - i have 3

does this wire length voodoo apply to other bike motors, i have a currie electro-drive 300w which was thrown out by a local cycle shop, i replaced the SLA's and it works fine but i have lengthened wires to about 1m :?

thanks for the offer deecanio, i think ill be fine as i have a massive parts "bin" (corner of garage) and a local dump which i can get things from, i got a 30cc petrol scooter for £5 :D

Yep, the watt-meter is fine. It's not that you can't have any wire-legnth, it's that the design should be optimized to keep the distance between the battery and ESC at a minimum. You can always put the ESC anywhere close, and run some big fat wires to connect it to the motor. :)
I wouldn't use caps that burned up on an ESC, there is a fair chance they are damaged. Caps are dirt cheap, just make sure it's greater than your pack voltage by 20% or so, and get the lowest ESR caps you can find. The size makes no difference for this type of filtering. :) With your other scooter project, it may be such a low power situation that it doesn't matter much, but always stick with keeping the controller close to the batts, and make up the needed distance via the motor connection leads.

Best Wishes, and nice job on your project!

hi Human,

no probs, now crack on with that problem solving and get some video up

thanks for all the help guys
unfortunately i have GCSE exams in 3-4 weeks and i would like to do well, because of this i will have to rebuild the bike in "revision breaks", i will post a video if you want but It will be some time away because i have yet to order an ESC.

one thing i have played about with is bike lights, i have found that a really nice light is http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/mr16-cool-white-lumen-5w50w-p-2109.html for you uk people, it even fits in those cheap MR16 scooter lights similar to these (i don't know for sure that these are mr16 size) http://cgi.ebay.com/Small-HeadLight...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2305b3c511
the LED module is very bright and nice and efficient.

sorry for lack of communication for a very long time

thanks for the advise, the bike was up and working for a short while (~20miles) but one of the pulleys has started to slip, i will probably key it somehow. but this is by far the longest the bike esc has lasted :) i will update with pictures at some point. I have a rubbish video but its the best i can do until i fix the bike (i am actually ashamed of the video  ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fxhfz1fkhew
