Very odd issue. I’ve never worked with a true sine wave controller so I can’t speak to that, but I can confirm that a Kelly KBSX (trapezoidal) controller works perfect with an MY1020 motor.

What you are experiencing sounds EXACTLY like mine did before I got the phases correct. I just looked at my build and without changing the physical position of the hall sensors I got it working with the following Controller:Motor Phase - YGB:YGB Hall - YGB:BYG

Sounds like you have a sensored brushless DC motor and the phases are out of sync between the motor and controller. Unfortunately there isn't a standard across manufacturers for what yellow, green, and blue actually mean so when you mix and match controllers and motors you can't just connect...
