Amberwolf,
Thank you for your help. It took several rounds of experimenting and testing, but I think I may have my heat issue under control. I used my Kline clamp on amp meter and tried various combinations of motor wires looking for the one with the least draw and tried different settings...
The controller worked straight out of the box. I bought the Kelly KEB testing control box. During simple bench testing I never hooked up the computer and software because it just worked. I didn't check settings until I started field testing under heavy load and the Blue, Green, Yellow motor...
Thank you for your reply. All help is appreciated.
I maybe looking at the wrong thing then. The software says KBL/KEB in the corner and on the forth screen I found an auto_identify under the smooth settings, but maybe it is just for the smooth. It does do the twitch thing with the motor...
I know this may sound stupid.
I use the software and set the auto_identify,
Cycle the controller, off/on, the motor twitches for a couple of seconds
Then what?
I see with other controllers you open up the software and see changes and save them. The KEB software is different.
Every time I...
Thank you that is helpful. I have the 232 connector for the controller, I just didn't try to hook it up yet. The bit about no load current draw is good to know. I can try that out right away.
I'll look for the other threads about Kelly controller tuning.
Thank you.
I have mounted an LR Big block to a small outboard motor drive train.
I am in a testing phase and the motor gets pretty hot, pretty quick at high throttle. I do not have a temperature reading yet, but the motor case is hot to the touch. If you leave your hand on the motor it will hurt.
Setup...
Mine was the original post, and I realized that I read it and didn't respond.
Thanks for the information very helpful. It was good to see that the Kelly can deliver a considerable burst.
My take, you cannot compare amperage rating between a Kelly controller and most other controllers because...
Nice professional touch with the display.
I have been working on an extremely similar project, but yours has better electrics.
I have a Polaris 90cc frame from the early 2000's. Can't figure out the year or model, but I have been assuming sportsman.

When I look at Kelly controllers I see voltages and amperage rating that suggest a much higher power rating than advertised. Does anyone have any insight?
Example KLS7218S
Voltage 24 - 72v
Amps
80 continuous
200 burst
They advertise this as a 2000w controllers and those numbers suggest a...
