The rub here is that this is that the "Infineon" controller in this kit that has now been branded perhaps the 800th different way (and yes I do exaggerate)....mine actually has "Nine Continent" with their horribly boring logo printed on the back...the one in the reviewed kit seems a bit less...

If you're overvolting or going 48v then Ping I think still sells his 48v 10ah batt for $348+70 ship=$414US....obviously the more cells/ah/beefier BMS=more $$ If you're staying at 36v...why not Jason Kraft? http://e-bikekit.com/shop/ He's got both a prismatic and a cell based box.....

I really doubt you can even build an A123 pack for $450...let alone a Headway which would be $700-$900 easy...depending on your flavor of BMS. You're going to be doing either prismatic LifePo4 ala Ping....or NiMh in your price range. Unless someone here on ES has a used pack....I'm thinking...

Welcome to the 9th continent! It is indeed a torquey little beast even at 22A. The 48v Ping with routinely spin the front tire a bit under full throttle when pulling away from a stop...FUN! That torque arm is better than some I've seen....:) The box & packing seem to be the de facto...

You are a mad freaking genius...you could DC to DC upconvert and tap that voltage on-demand...to be sure you would need a more serious controller and probably a CA to insure that you're never pulling more than 20-22a out of the bat during NORMAL riding....but you could then radically overvolt...
