    Bad Lipo Cell

What I neglected to mention in my previous post is that I do balance the taps on a balance board when charging, just not when in discharge. I have been very pleased with the batteries until I did my century ride last weekend... I was tired near the end of this ride and pushed the batteries to...

    Bad Lipo Cell

I decided to scrap the parallel cell which was dragged down from the bad cell when I cycled my battery pack on the charger. I looked closely at the voltage of each cell and noted that on the lower end of discharge, 3.6volts, the paralleled cell was getting down to 3.4volts while the other 4...

    Bad Lipo Cell

Actually, 33volts was UNDER LOAD!!! At no time did I say it was at rest, the CA shut it off at the magic number. Thanks for all the information. I'll chalk this up to a learning experience and move on. Remove the bad cells and work with what I have.

    Bad Lipo Cell

Thanks for the information, a little late is better then never. Sadly I thought I was doing well keeping the battery above 33volts - http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=9170&start=30 I read that thread very very carefully and I don't recall seeing 35volts - 3.5volts/cell...

    Bad Lipo Cell

I've been running 5A5s Turnigy 20C lipos in parallel, then in series, 10A37V, for about 23 charges and today my iCharger discovered a weak cell. My setup is: soldered the discharge leads in parallel and kept the balance plugs separate, so when I charge using a parallel board, two packs at a...

watt hours in series vs parallel - discuss

Excellent thread I find I'll be in a position soon to debate going 20s2p with 5Ah lipo packs or 10s4p. At the moment 10s2p has worked remarkably well with a BMC V3, Lyen 12FET. I find at the moment, my voltage and capacity drain very closely together... in other words, when my capacity is...

    Electrifying SUCKS Amps!!!

Had a chance to get to the voltmeter today and my measurements are very close to yours... the power is 4.7volts and the sensors each measured 4.9volts to battery ground. Hope this helps. As for my original post, for each action there is an opposite and equal reaction. Electrifying DOESN'T...

XPD: open-source keywin e-bike lab replacement

Thanks for this software. I have the Lyen 12FET controller and I could not get his program to play on my computer. Thought I could live with the defaults in the controller until my motor would shut down at 38volts :? Found this thread, and everything works fine now. Sweet.... thanks again...

    Electrifying SUCKS Amps!!!

After my rant, take a deep breath and come back to it next day. Analyze problem, find problem, repair problem. Get required info and now the CA is set. Peaks at 4 - 5 amps with no load, settles to 3.5 amps... Murphy just needs a smack to the side of the head every now and then 8)

    Electrifying SUCKS Amps!!!

I'm in agreement.... and I have contacted Lyen to find out what the shunt resistor value is inside the controller, since this is a direct plug-in model cycle analyst. I have nothing available to check the current draw with a known value so I'll wait for my answer from Lyen.

    Electrifying SUCKS Amps!!!

You couldn't be more right, I have never received this kind of response and I had always asked politely before. The problem was me, so now I blush, apologize and move on. And now that I have resolved this with the assistance of Lyen I'll cough up my error to all who kindly sent their moral...

    Electrifying SUCKS Amps!!!

The feedback is appreciated and in a moment of frustration, I blew up  Everything posted in reply is true and so is the truth of what I've put into this. Yes I could have, should have, would have done many things differently, that's the past and a mute point. I'm in the Now and...

    Electrifying SUCKS Amps!!!

WTF?? That's all I can say. I waited half the summer for my wheel build, now I'm dealing with this goddamn controller... I've wasted a whole frocking summer, and for what? I'm thousands of $$$$ lighter without a penny to spare and now nothing, absolutely nothing to show for it, except for a...

    Battery setup

I know I need to know more about this. :? Does connecting the balance taps while riding require a bms? or do they connect to each other within the parallel pack and self regulate/balance? The reasons you mention sound valid to me. Of course I have complete control over each cell during the...

    Battery setup

Yes, that may yet happen, but not this year. I'll be working over the winter to see how differently I may attach the batteries. At that time I'll rewire for parallel packs into series. For now, it shall be quite stealth. Everything is in place except the V3 motor which is being laced into a...
