    Wiring up a mid drive

Hi I have a hub motor currently but was looking at buying a BBS02 but wanted to run it exclusively on a throttle. So....does the motor have an internal controller only? And if so can it be modified/set up to be throttle only? This is my main interest. Also, if it does have an internal...

    Wiring up a mid drive

Hi I had heard ( but couldnt confirm ) that the mid drive motor controller is actually built into the motor, and if so its a different set up to my existing hub motor. So I wondered how you would connect it to run throttle only and I guess bypass the pas. Are mid drives supposed to be pas...

    Wiring up a mid drive

Hi Ive been told Bafang mid drives ( like the BBS02B Bafang ) have thier own onboard controllers, if so how do you set them up to run off a throttle only? In theory they are supposed be pedal activated but I think I may set it to run either throttle or pedal. Thoughts welcome

Rear wheel hub motors - do they free wheel?

Hi I was contemplating buying a rear wheel hub motor and was hoping it may allow the rear wheel to freely rotate when the power is not applied? I have a front wheel hub motor that slows the bike down when no power is applied, and for long distance riding unless your battery is large capacity...

rear wheel hub vs geared motor question

Hi Ok, cool...I like the idea of efectively a low speed cruise control signal.....I have to say that using a hand twist throttle can be challenging getting around pedestrians. I am of the opinion riding an e-bike around pedestrians like driving slow through a flock of sheep on the road....but...

rear wheel hub vs geared motor question

Hi dogman dan, Thanks for the extensive info, its very helpful. The cunning plan is to actually take the bikes on a 60 mile round trip to a few wineries here soon, so I was a bit worried that it might be hard work without being able to coast along properly with constant magnetic drag.... So...

rear wheel hub vs geared motor question

Hi I have a opportunity to make my commute bike rear wheel ( currently a normal wheel ) to an electric hub motor but I'd like some advice on whether to go geared or non geared. The bike is ridden a total of 30 mins each day for commuting. I have a non-geared motor on the front wheel, but I...

Newbie question - motors and 9 pin

Hi Thanks for the info, that sreally helpful. What type of voltage wave form would the controller output on each phase? 3 phase usually means 3 voltage signals 120 degress apart in phase. Are there diagrams of this? I havent worked with steppers before, but I'd have thought a "step" is a...

    EMI/RFI Dangerous?

You can put shielding ( like alu foil ) between you and the cables and motors, but worth putting a trailing earth strap onto the cart so any static build up or induced voltage from the electric field from cables or motors, discharges to ground.

Newbie question - motors and 9 pin

Hi, Im totally new to ebikes, have an electrical background and was hoping people way more knowlegable than me could answer a few basic questions on motors and plugs. I thought when i got this motor with a weird plug "uh oh...." Ok... I bought a 250W unbranded hub motor that has a 9 pin julet...
