Hi

Ive been told Bafang mid drives ( like the BBS02B Bafang ) have thier own onboard controllers, if so how do you set them up to run off a throttle only?

In theory they are supposed be pedal activated but I think I may set it to run either throttle or pedal.

Thoughts welcome

Hi

I had heard ( but couldnt confirm ) that the mid drive motor controller is actually built into the motor, and if so its a different set up to my existing hub motor.

So I wondered how you would connect it to run throttle only and I guess bypass the pas. Are mid drives supposed to be pas actuated only? Sorry i just dont know.much about mid mounts but i do have a technical background...

I don't have one, but I believe the stock behavior is that the PAS levels affect the assist for both the PAS and throttle, both being off on level 0. However, if you get the programming cable, you can change the settings to allow throttle to work in PAS level 0, so that PAS is off, and throttle only. This is just what I get from reading and watching the videos. If nobody responds to confirm this, then you may get more traction in the mid drive (non hub motor) subforum.

Hi

I have a hub motor currently but was looking at buying a BBS02 but wanted to run it exclusively on a throttle.

So....does the motor have an internal controller only? And if so can it be modified/set up to be throttle only? This is my main interest.

Also, if it does have an internal controller but I want to use an external controller , is it possible?

Or is it easier to just buy a motor and make my own gearbox and use an external controller?

Thanks

On my three BBSHDs, I can set the PAS to 0 and then throttle when I want. I often ride this way when I am after exercise (but not too much.). I don't remember if I programmed it this way or if it was stock. But I never had a programming cable, so any programming I did was simply through the display and the buttons on the on/off pad.

with my bbs02, at pas0, the throttle was disabled (why?). before i got a programming cable, i just pulled the gray(?) wire from the connector in the controller. when i finally got the cable and went into the luna software, i didn't see (or it wasn't clear to me) a way to get throttle at pas0.
i prefer using the pedals without pas as a primary, then throttle as my assist when i want to ease the load.
i do notice, setting the pas level (even tho disabled)at 1, the motor assist cuts out at about 10mph, and increasing levels will allow assist all the way to top speed.

Based on the hacker's guide, PAS level 0 should be set to "1", so there's no pedal assist, but available throttle in PAS level 0. I think that's what the OP was looking for.

thanks for the clarification. i'll change pas0 to 1 next time i'm in there.
