Hey folks I could use some help learning some charging info I am having trouble finding, I am sure simple to many of you guys. I got this J1772 x three 5-15 outlets rated at 32A. I would like to run three on board chargers, two 25A chargers and one 5A charger on the three outlets. The 25A chargers are adjustable so should I adjust them down to keep the total load under 32A? I see they have J1772 outlets rated at 50A and even 80A. Also some wall boxes and even portable EV chargers range from 16A to 50A units. Would I need a 50A outlet and wall box, with 60 amp breaker to safely fully feed all the chargers or would 32A cover them all? Thank you for any help and understanding. 🛴IMG_3759.jpeg

These are my two 25A chargers i will be running on the adapter. I am anxious to see if it gets hot. I just got this 50A outlet with beefy wires if needed. Great news also it already has the pilot to ground line with its diodes and resistors wired in. My new J1772 outlet looks like a cool new age ‘exhaust pipe’ coming out the rear! Eventually I will make some covers and trim, but I just got her all wired up and can’t wait to try real public charging! Eventually I will get a j1772 portable home ev charger to use at home, once I see what size I need. Exciting stuff. Hopefully more as I learn it.

Neat setup. Have you tested this at a public charger yet? Are you able to see how many amps actually get delivered?

Thank you. I have not tested it yet on a 220v public charging station yet, and I am waiting like a kid till Christmas till I get the chance! They even have some free stations close by at our local university. I am double stoked to try those! The big chargers should read out real time amps. The hope is I can max out both adjustable amp chargers at 25A and add the 5A aux. charger on any charging station thru the J1772, without things getting too warm. I can run all three chargers on 110v here at home but I have to turn the adjustable ones way down or melt all my my extension cords! Hopefully 220v outlet at home soon. ⚡

There are 6 free charging stations at the mall right by my house! The stations open at 6am and the mall doesn’t open till 10am. When I got there about at 6:20 only one was in use. I plugged in and it immediately started charging all three chargers. My batteries were partially charged, around 77V of 84V, and I was fully charged in an hour! I usually run the batteries down to about 72v, so I should get full batteries in about an hour and a half. Amazing! I cranked up the big chargers both to 25A max and it had no issues. All wiring from the J1772 adapter and all chargers never even got warm. These charging stations are rated to deliver a little over 6kW so I have learned a home charging box putting out 7kW is plenty. That is good because those can run on our existing 220v 30A breaker for the dryer. What a feeling of freedom to be able to fast charge almost anywhere, and often for free! Absolutely loving it!
