    Bafang BBS0x Installation Advice?

I am currently watiing for a BBS02 to arrive. As a bike mechanic the basic installation is very straightforward, and simple. Based on the recent thread about the bottom bracket bearings I have concluded that packing the BB shell with grease would probably be a good thing. Are there any other...

Bafang BBSxx, replacement of bearings in bottom bracket

Great, that's what I Thought about pulling the spindle without removing the bearings. I was only asking about the bearing removal to get a better picture of how it goes together. I'll plan on packing it with grease, and hopefully it will go a few more miles without trouble.

Bafang BBSxx, replacement of bearings in bottom bracket

this thread is interesting, and as someone who will be taking delivery of a Bafang crank drive soon I'm wondering if it wouldn't be a good idea to pull the spindle, and put a bunch of grease inside before I assemble it for the first time. Having never had one in my hand it's hard to tell for...

    Bafang 750w middrive ss mtb

Nope, that's the speed sensor for the PAS. The gearsensor mounts inline with the shifter cable, and detects cable movement. Cable moves, power is cut to the motor during the shift. Cable stops moving, motor starts. At least that's how it's supposed to work. The Nuvinci drive works with...

    Bafang 750w middrive ss mtb

At the moment you are running a 75" gear (well that was quick mental math, but it's gotta be close). A Nuvinci has a low gear that is .5 of the input gear, so you would end up with a 37" gear on the low end. Not the best for non motorized SS mountain biking, but the motor assist changes the...

BBS02 Yuba Mundo w/thru axle Build

It is really unfortunate that the Yuba uses 14mm axles. The design of a freewheel hub necessitates the stronger axle, where the design of a modern freehub supports the axle to prevent much of the bending/breaking that used to be commonplace on freewheel hubs. The Nexus 3 is a recreational hub...

    Henry111's free tech support thread

Thanks for the update. I'm impressed with how promptly Ewan replies to email. How long did it take for it to ship? At the moment it will be a couple of weeks before he gets more in stock, but it really seems worth the wait, especially if the travel time from there to the states isn't that bad.

Bafang BBS02 on a BikeE RX recumbent

I think you could make the tandem timing crank idea work. It sounds like you have thought this through pretty well in regards to chainline on the timing crank. I don't think you will be able to find an appropriate sealed cartridge bottom bracket with a spindle long enough to align the...

Bafang, Lighning Rods, or Stokemonkey for Big Dummy?

That's great. You are running a 35" low gear, and my current gear comes in at 29". So, if i maintain my current ratio i should have no problem. Even if i keep my 16 in the back it will be a 31" gear with the 44. Thanks for the help!

Bafang, Lighning Rods, or Stokemonkey for Big Dummy?

Your Yuba is an awesome machine! Thanks for chiming in, I think i'll go ahead with the Bafang. It looks like the smallest stock ring is 44t, which will roughly be the same gear inch as i'm running now if i change the rear freewheel to a 20t. What is your lowest gear inch? I saw a Yuba on the...

Bafang BBS02 chain ring with improved off-set?

Thanks for replying. I'm a little concerned that the chainline is so far out of spec at 52mm. On this system since the chainwheel mounts to the reduction gear it would seem much less variable. I guess i won't know until I have it installed, but i have no room in the back to move the...

Bafang BBS02 chain ring with improved off-set?

I am probably going to be getting a BBs02 in the very near future, and this thread raises some questions for me. First of all, when you say "improved offset," what is it about the offset you are trying to improve? It is my understanding that the BBS02 has a chainline of 50mm's based on the...

    BBS01 crank arm installation

I said "cranks with a rounded taper,". I was referring to the fact that the crank arm flats can get rounded by riding loose, and thereby destroying the fit. So, yes i agree, and it sounds like you too agree with me.

Bafang, Lighning Rods, or Stokemonkey for Big Dummy?

green79: Did you test a Bafang on a cargo bike? Was it the 750w version? I here what you are saying about the PAS, and I can't say if that would bother me or not. I guess I imagined that once I found the level that worked for my needs I would be able to leave it be. The two ebikes we have...

    BBS01 crank arm installation

Ive seen good evidence that suggests the crank moves a bit further onto taper as it is used for a brief period after installation. This effectively loosens the bolt that secured it in the first place. If the bolt isn't snugged up after the crank creeps onto the taper it can loosen a little...

Bafang, Lighning Rods, or Stokemonkey for Big Dummy?

green79: I'm interested in your input, and like you I was interested in the right side version. I emailed Justin, and he said that the Cycle Stoker won't be a wholesale change from the Stokemonkey, but just a few different parts. With that in mind I could switch to the new version when it...

Bafang, Lighning Rods, or Stokemonkey for Big Dummy?

Okay, that makes sense. So i really just need to figure out the ideal step down gear from the motor to the timing crank that will put me in my comfortable spinning range. So, what about torque? Will the bafang be able to supply the torque necessary to pull 350-400lbs of total weight up a...

Bafang, Lighning Rods, or Stokemonkey for Big Dummy?

I'm a bike mechanic with 30 years of experience. I think I can set up any of these systems. Do you have personal experience with the Stokemonkey? One question I have about the SM is about the efficiency. From what I understand it is generally considered a 36v system, and yet it is also said...

Bafang, Lighning Rods, or Stokemonkey for Big Dummy?

Thank you for your help. It has been a lot of reading to get to where i am, and I probably would have bought a Bafang already if I hadn't learned about the LR kit. I'm a tinkerer by nature, and I suspect that this could be a new hobby incubating. At the moment I really don't need a new hobby...

Bafang, Lighning Rods, or Stokemonkey for Big Dummy?

The torque sensor seems like a really cool feature to add. I have been in touch with Mike about the LR Cargo kit. I'm certainly interested, but there are a couple of questions you may be able to help clear up: 1, is the ISIS crank the only real option? I only ask because in the normal bike...

What tools are needed to install a bafang 8fun mid drive?

I haven't installed one of these, but in my research I've come across a few threads where people show the tools they used to install it According to the following thread you need two bottom bracket tools. A bottom bracket lock ring tool, and a hollowtech bottom bracket wrench. It seems to me...

    LightningRods mid drive kit

Yes, this is all true. While the geared hub motor may have a "different" optimal speed it still suffers from having an actual speed that is dictated by how fast the wheel, and therefore the bike, is going. A mid drive can be run closer to its optimal range because the gears can be changed in...

    LightningRods mid drive kit

I'm somewhat new to ebiking, but an old hand with bikes. Unless there's something different about an ebike you will be hitting 93rpm's regardless of where the motor sits as long as the gear ratio is the same. For instance, a gear of 50/14 will get you 30mph spinning at 93rpm's. If you are in...

    LightningRods mid drive kit

Thanks for the speedy reply. And you answered another wuestion that's been on my mind, chain tension. I'm currently using a Nuvinci N171, and as you probavly know the Dummy has vertical dropouts, so i have rigged an idler pulley that works pretty well, but it will have to change when I add the...
