    Bicycle Wheel Balancing

Never balanced them, but I have noticed the front wheels of my trikes - 16"x1 1/8 fitted with Schawlbe Stelvios - always rotate with to the same spot with the valve to the bottom of the wheel. Usually place the speedo magnet opposite to thw valve to reduce this.

Emergency cut off switch---yes or no?

Aussie, is the switch your talking about one of those battery isolation switches used in motorsport. The ones with the red T handle????

International Ebike Racing Club (IEBC) - thoughts?

Sounds a great idea but.... In the human powered vehicle racing which I have involved with in the past are still trying to get a common set of rules in place so one vehicle will comply with every event that is held around Australia. It has only taken 19 years for this to happen so far........

    Duct fan propulsion?

I know that school trialled a prop powered trike a number of years ago. Apparently it worked ok, but the project was shelved after it threw a prop blade. It went through a window and embedded itself into a classroom wall

    Recumbent Friction Outrunner Prototype

The springs were in use all the time as in previous years it has been found that even in the dry the roller - made from a skate board wheel - would spin on the tyre (20" slick) and wear it out. More pressure seems to stop that happening in the dry but in the wet it was unuseable. At least...

Some custom work going on in the "Matt-Cave" :~)

Nitram - we need to exchange notes. Great to find another trike powered by a smoker :D I'm looking to go petrol/electric this year instead of petrol/pedal.

    Recumbent Friction Outrunner Prototype

Are you planning to increase the spring pressure holding the motor against the tyre????? Just asking because I experienced slip when using a 31cc petrol engine in a friction drive set up with 4 to 6 springs that look a bit more "manly" than the one you are using. It was unuseable in the wet :(

Some custom work going on in the "Matt-Cave" :~)

The last trike I built ran a significantly wider track, approx 4 inches wider (200mm) than any of my previous trikes. All I can say is that it made a hell of a difference. With the narrow track it was always an issue keeping the wheels pointing down  we always finished races with at...

Some custom work going on in the "Matt-Cave" :~)

I have found that getting whatever weight you have in a trike as low as possible is one of the secrets to getting a trike to corner (along with running a decent front track - have argued that you need a wider track than 600mm with the kids  ). The first trike that I ran was used by...

Some custom work going on in the "Matt-Cave" :~)

Impressive quality and detail as usual. Got to seriously think about an RC drive for my next trike build - will be picking your brains in the future. Thinking 50cc smoker plus an RC drive for a 24 hour racer

    LIGHTING !!!

We have used LED downlights for years in my 24hr race trike.

Left side drive with disc brake

I know it would be easier to build the freewheel or clutch into the drive system but as we 1. are basically involved in a race where economy is more important than outright speed 2. only use the motor for part of a lap, about half of each straight max the rest is either pedal or electric...

Left side drive with disc brake

Interesting, I've been mulling over the idea of a rear disc hub with a left hand drive but incorporating a clutch arrangment to allow the some sort freewheeling when the motor (petrol or electric) is not driving. The idea is to reduce the friction by not constantly driving chains/belts if the...

    Enclosed trike / Velomobile dream

I do not think the a frame covered with stretch material would work. In any sort of accident, it would be torn/ripped/melted open leaving you exposed to the roads surface. As someone who has slide a velomobile on its side for 12 metres with no protection, that situation is never going to end...

Greenspeed Trikes + Cyclone Front Crank Compatibility

I'm 99.99% sure that Greenspeed use standard sized bottom brackets on their trikes. The ones they sell us to build our trikes are anyway.

    Throttle throttles throttles. Sigh.

Here are a few pics of my as yet un-tested thumb throttle. It has a built in return spring at the moment but can be converted back to use a gear cable attatched to some sort of remote located return arrangement. Will get some more pics of it when I pull it apart as I feel that a little more...

    Aussie Role Call

G'day all, I'm Colin from Maryborough Vic, and I am in the process of building my first electric vehicle. It is a trike that is to be powered by a little 300W brushed motor, planning on 36v of sla's to be helped out by a 31cc weed eater motor driving the rear tyre. It is being built to compete...

    Throttle throttles throttles. Sigh.

I am sick of replacing twist throttles as well, on my fourth in a couple of months and the bike is not even on the road yet! so I am converting to a pot. To do this, I have modified a Shimano bar end shifter with a bit of filing and drilling (10 minutes work) so the shaft of the pot slips...

    Enclosed trike / Velomobile dream

That is what the organisors of the competition I am preparing a trike for has done I guess. We are allowed different amounts of batteries depending on the type. Up to 100kg of lead acid down to 30kg of lithium with no mains charging.
