Specialized Demo 9 + BBSHD with VESC

Not really sure what you're referring to? The first VESC that exploded, or the second that will not do FOC mode or pull steep hills? If you are looking at the videos they are old, and with the stock BBSHD controller. VESC still has a lot of tuning to do, but now I have a raspberry pi...

Specialized Demo 9 + BBSHD with VESC

After some strange behaviour I discovered that my RX & TX for the bluetooth were partially connected or just interfering with the analog input from the throttle. This led to all kinds of weird stuff I tried to tune away... firstly, the motor and chain would give a loud bang as it tightened, when...

Specialized Demo 9 + BBSHD with VESC

First VESC died in less than 24 hours! For others to learn from my mistake, my mistake was to order a VESC without battery side external capacitors, and running a burned / poor connection XT90. XT90 lost contact while it was auto-detecting FOC parameters - there were welding sounds - and magic...

Specialized Demo 9 + BBSHD with VESC

Thanks for the interest! Check the Wiki page in github, I added some pictures of the wiring. I just used an extra bafang switch I had, the wires are soldered directly to the arduino, each button has a DI pin (I forget the pin numbers, but should be obvious in the arduino program). The display...

Specialized Demo 9 + BBSHD with VESC

First VESC test passed! https://goo.gl/photos/xSbyqmWuEZ9TW4Zk6 Running in FOC mode, sensorless. Currently hunting for the right connectors, funnily enough I can't find the type of sockets on the vesc listed anywhere. If my measurements are correct, the BBSHD needs a 6 pin JST XH (2.5mm pitch)...

Specialized Demo 9 + BBSHD with VESC

BBSHD controller died after exactly 1 year! Turns out it only had a 3 month warranty. That is BS for such an expensive item. It's not short circuited when I ohm the battery wires, but it welded my XT90 plug when I plugged the battery in. Luckily the BMS cut off (but not quickly enough), because...

Can we build a better KTM Freeride E?

Very interesting posts here! That last one looks amazing. The russian one I've seen before, looks amazing but probably too expensive and/or too race biased for my (current) needs and buget. I will watch LMX for sure. A street legal one would be awesome! Today I was at a big motorbike...

Can we build a better KTM Freeride E?

All this is super awesome, but I guess it will never be street legal in Europe? Which is one of my requirements unfortunately...

Can we build a better KTM Freeride E?

I really really really want a KTM Freeride E. But then I read about it. And what I read, altough inconsistent, tells me that I could do a better job (or maybe rather, I want a different bias). What I read, and don't like is - it can only run between 20 minutes and 1 hour - top speed is 70 kph...

Specialized Demo 9 + BBSHD with VESC

Ho_Yz-qZ-Ik Couldn't find a lightswitch that did the job, so I built one! Arduino Nano Bafang switch Takes up to 100v, feeds the same voltage through to the lights. PWM dimming, software adjustable frequency Turns on/off with bike Adjustable brightness for low beam. Stores that brightness...

Fun-E-Cycles Video Collection BBS02 Tip's and Extreme Bike

Yeah that's my bike, with a friend riding it. He is good at this stuff, it doesn't wheelie that easy unless you have the technique.

connections for? EcityP Smart S5-13 BMS

Hi, has anyone successfully connected fuel gauge LEDs to this board? I tried, and fried mine yesterday.... The spec sheet of the OZ890 says 'LED DRIVER'. So I thought that meant LED0-LED4 would give 2.1v or something, to drive a LED against ground. It did nothing. Measured, LED0-4 all gives...

Specialized Demo 9 + BBSHD with VESC

That video was the original gears, 32 in the back and 42 front New gears are 36 on the cassette + 40 black alu gear that broke. But the 36 (now 2nd gear) is still pretty awesome, a lot better than the 32.

Specialized Demo 9 + BBSHD with VESC

Ditched the Pie, got the BBSHD instead. Bought some bigger gears from Ebay. BBSHD 1 - gear 0 Anyways - suspension works again, bike climbs like a goat, lots of fun.

Specialized Demo 9 + BBSHD with VESC

oh and please don't read the cell voltages in this picture, this was before I got the calibration tool to work. Now they're calibrated, and my cells look pretty nicely balanced.

Specialized Demo 9 + BBSHD with VESC

After calibrating my BMS's voltage measurements I was up to 12 km, mostly uphill. Turns out, a BMS that measures correctly, gives me a fuel gauge AND has a proper low voltage cutoff per each cell is really valuable. Will rework the packaging, I think I will build 2 equial boxes, each containing...

No issues, but as it's my first ebike I have nothing to compare to. Wiring is very clean.

Multistar lipo questions / issues / solutions

Did the test. First cells hit 3.3v after 8.3 Ah. That should have delivered 20 Ah! And now I only pulled 15A per battery, theoretically, meaning I'm pulling less than I did with the charger, a test that resulted in the batteries delivering the full 10 Ah. Is this my watt meter being absolutely...

Multistar lipo questions / issues / solutions

Spot on. I have done several tests as I'm trying to collect proof that these batteries are not doing what they're 'sposed to. But the hardest I can discharge with any of the chargers I've had my hands on is 20A, and they still give the full 10 000 mAh. It got pretty hot at 20A though, like 45-50...
