    Belt slip stopper, idea.

I think the belt slip stopper idea is more efficient when using timing belts, because you hardly need any pressure of the roller on the pulley. Pressure will build up when torque is applied and the belt teeth want to escape the pulley slots. I use the slip stopper for 2kW motor with 1/17 gearing...

Using a mosfet as a switch?

On my VESC, I measure 18.8mA idle current (on 48Volts battery) (VESC only, with just a 10kOhm potentiometer as a command). This current seems to be higher than the long term current reported by Marcin (4.4mA average on 6s). It might be possible to reduce the idle current using EN_GATE on...

Opensource Remote / BMS / BEC

Yes, the idea is to avoid the adapter. I imagine several people use 2x 6s and the more adapters, the more issues. So it was just a proposal for you to modify the PCB to support both options, but it does not seem so easy to do.

10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

I like the idea of using one shunt only. I don't think it removes the FOC possibility since you can reconstruct the 3 phase currents as in Microchip note AN1299 : http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/AppNotes/01299A.pdf Otherwise, probably taking 3 samples each time, and using a median filter...

Opensource Remote / BMS / BEC

@fuelre: would be nice if the BMS could handle both 1x12s or 2x6s battery connectors. It might be not so easy to modify the PCB for this..

Thanks. I tried the current .apk, but it fails to start properly (a message indicates "BLDCApp stopped" after a couple of seconds). The previous version (ui only) did work on the same device (Wiko kite) - I tried several thing with and without activating bluetooth initially.

    Belt slip stopper, idea.

Just a pictures (taken using a mirror) to show my last implementation of the belt slip stopper, that now seems to work fine. The roller (black) prevents the belt to slip Surprisingly, it works both for traction and also regen (due to the position of the slip stopper, I though it would mostly...

Using a mosfet as a switch?

I am wondering how the FET switch impacts voltage ripple at the ESC input. My understanding of the PWM switching for brushless drives makes the battery current take positive and negative values at the switching frequency. Using low ESR capacitors (10mOhm ?) in parallel with the Lipo (10mOhm for...

    Belt slip stopper, idea.

@Barndom: I've implemented you slip stopper idea on my Ebike with T5 belt. The motor pulley is small compared to the wheel pulley, which makes is more prone to slipage (pictures in the middle of the following llink, and the slip stopper was not installed at that time)...

I think you get the 100Amps from the battery during the ON times of the controller PWM, and around 18 Amps on average; (If the controller was dissipating the extra voltage, that's more than a kilowatt, and it would just melt quikly - I am positive the VESC has above 95% efficiency in most...

10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

I think fasser said 9k ERPM. So that's maybe just 1285RPM for a motor with 7 pairs of poles (not sure this one actually is). The motor voltage should then be around 8 volts (=1285/170), so 100Amps in the motor yields around 18Amps for the battery (assuming 44Volts), which is Okay for those...

Hi, I'm also using two Turnigy 5000mAh 6S 20C Lipos in series and 168kV motor. I had no issue so far (after some 100 kilometers now). The VESC works great for me. But my current limit is set at 60A (discharge) and 40Amp charge (for mechanical reason, otherwise my timing belt might slip then). I...

    Thks Lizard, actually I use the VESC + SK6374 on a recumbent Ebike. So I can attach the display to the bike frame, and probably some kind of modified GPS fixture will do. But I also need to design some shading means to improve readability in the sun. Good job for 3D printing I suppose;

Thks for the link. You are right, it will be much simpler to have a BT connection with a mobile phone. I already have the BT module to connect to the VESC, so I should be able to test this when they release an Android version. I just need to figure out how to mechanically handle the phone and...

I am thinking of a little display add-on to the VESC, in order to show real time speed/Power/battery soc (state of charge as % of full charge). Display has to be sunlight readable and preferably use UAR, CANT or SPI connection to the VESC. I think using sharp LS013B4DN04 could be interesting...

Hi, Thks a lot for these updates ! Could you please tell where we can get the new firmware versions 1.5 or 1.6 (.bin files) which seem to be required. I am not familiar with Github, and I prefer not buid them myself whenever possible. Otherwise I managed to program my VESC using a STM32F0...

@vanarian: if your BMS doesn't allow regenerative current to flow to the battery, this will limit battery voltage, but it does not mean it will prevent the motor/controller voltage to rise; I even think the opposite: there will be nothing to help limit this voltage rise, except the input...

@Vanarian: How do you make sure you max at 3.6Volts only for your 14s ? The slightest regen will make voltage override this 3.6 volts, unless there is a trick ?

I am about to buy a ST-Link v2 and I was thinking to just import the VESC_default.bin file to just program the firmware. Do you mean this would not work ? (As I have another VESC, I think I could also try to clone its program memory to the VESC I need to reprogram).

@vedder: You are correct. The VESC_Default.bin file I tried to download was only 27kbyte as compared to 166kb for the correct one. I can't see what I did wrong to extract this file incorrectly, but I did. It may be good to have bldc-tools make some checks on the .bin file (you could require the...

10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

@vedder: from your bootloader scheme description, my VESC should be stuck at point 1 (98% shown) and then normal operation should resume upon next startup - which is not the case (blue LED on, USB port not recognized, board power consumption around 20mA @12V once capacitor charged) I suspect the...

Great! Can you tell me which .bin firmware you used ? I tried VESC_Default.bin. Maybe I had a timing issue because my PC is slow (1.6GHz Pentium M). Anyway, now I understand that the bootloaded is not included in the .bin; Can I download somewhere a .bin file of the bootloader alone (or maybe...

I put temporarly a compiled version for windows of Vedder BLDC-tools, along with the .dll you need and also the USB driver for ST (stsw-stm32102.zip) http://www.omegawatt.fr/paille/bdlc-tool-windows.zip No install required except for the driver. Just copy the .exe file and .dlls in a...

10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

Hello, I received my VESCs and tested one on the bench. It seems to run fine so far. A collegue compiled a windows version of BLDC-tools for me (revisiting some Qt serial port library) and this worked fine for setting the parameters and showing real time graphs. Unfortunately, then I was more...

Hi, I just saw on IR website that the MOSFET IRFS3006 could be replaced with IRFS7530-7P. Just in case you haven't sourced them yet. Also available is IRFS7730-7P for a 75V version (which would increase the voltage margin for those, like me, who want to use a 13s battery). The DRV8302 may not...
