Any sources for 8mm bore 1/2" bicycle chain motor sprockets?

Working on bike #2 using standard bicycle chain (1/2" pitch), the No.25 chain was a pain in the butt on bike #1. I'd like to just attach the motor (which has an 8mm D shaft) to the rear wheel sprocket. This is a single speed children's bike and the rider's pedaling does not connect to the...

    Generator Motor

I got the 8mm D shaft 11t sprocket from TNCscooters.com. It's $5. Not sure about the quality of their stuff, as all I got was the motor and two sprockets, but they were very quick with the shipping. I had the parts in like 3 days. Of course they charge more on shipping than, say...

    Generator Motor

Still having problems mating the motor and cranks. I tried to pull apart two donor crank sets but they were all rusted. I ordered an 80 tooth #25 sprocket and an 11 tooth one. The 11 tooth has a sloppy fit and the 80 tooth has holes that are not helping with mounting to a bike crank. I...

    Chain Sizes

Did a quick search and didn't see a discussion on this... What are the different chain sizes in use? When looking for sprockets on the scooter sites and mcmaster-carr, I see various no. sprockets and chains. The scooter sites have no.25 and no.35. I've seen it mentioned that no.35 are used...

    Generator Motor

Forgot to metion that I also bought two Kollmorgens from Bob Mcree. I'll look for a rectifier to use on those. I also found a treadmill by the side of the road and pulled the motor out. It is a 2 hp, 120v permanent magnet motor. Rated for 3000rpm and 8a.

    Generator Motor

I received the Unite motor yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately the sprocket does't work with a bike chain. It's a bit more heavy duty. I bought #25 sprockets but those have pretty small teeth. I guess I'll buy some #25 chain and swap sprockets. Oh, there is no freewheel. I also got 4 SLA...

Home Brew Controller, what would it take ?

I have no pull up resistor on the AVR. It goes straight to the IR2101. What's a open collector? I suppose I should look on wikipedia..

Home Brew Controller, what would it take ?

Forget the internet-- what about with no duct tape?

    Generator Motor

Thanks for the heads up on the geared motors. If that is indeed the case I will take the motor apart and see what I can do. It'll be interesting to compare how well a series DC motor compares to a brushless DC with a bridge. I'll email you about the Kollmorgen :)

Home Brew Controller, what would it take ?

Hmm, I printed out the recommend operation ranges from the datasheet. Vin (logic) is 0 to Vcc. Vcc is 10 to 20V. I'm attaching my schematic to this post. Go Powerpoint... I ordered several other IRF parts to see if they change anything. IRS2001PBF-ND, and IR2011. The latter boasts "CMOS...

    Generator Motor

Thanks Vanilla Ice. Hmm, never thought I'd say that. I bought the 36v 250W geared DC motor. I will report back when I get it. I think I'm also going to try one of the cheap kollmorgens.

Home Brew Controller, what would it take ?

Wow I wish I had waited for this thread about six months ago. I am not an EE, I am a CSE, and I have been piecing my own homebrew controller together for about half a year now. I have to admit I am pretty ignorant on driving the mosfets. Looks like I just have one more issue to overcome...

    Generator Motor

For $48 I think this is worth a try :) Is this a reputable site to buy from? That scooter site has some other cool parts. I wonder if the 8mm D-shaft sprocket fits my BMC motor? I also thought about what looks one might get, when pedaling cadence isn't related to speed. But I think if you...

    Generator Motor

Forgot to mention that my bikes seem to fall into disrepair all the time, so while the efficiency of a chain is supposedly 98%, I think a rusty chain with a rusty idler wheel probably is quite a bit lower.

    Generator Motor

Hey guys, actually I should have mentioned the idea was to charge the bike while its in motion. True, it's not terribly efficient, but I found that the dumpster of a local bike store is chock full of parts every week, and I was thinking of making a tandem trike. Working out the chain and so...

    Generator Motor

Hi all, I'm looking to do some pedal power generation but am having trouble finding suitable motors. I'd like to charge the batteries of an electric bike with a generator/alternator. One problem is matching the motor voltage to battery voltage. It's easy to find 12v DC motors, but these...

EV Rally/Event in Palo Alto August 25th!

The motorcycle with the side car is called "Wattsinthebox" and was built by an SJ EAA member, Terry. The guy with the solar powered trike shows up at the Palo Alto EAA meetings. Mike, the guy on the bar stool segway: I think he said he got a concussion when it got out of control and he fell...

Mating motor to gear sprockets and H Bridge Circuit

Good news, the person took my mother's bike instead of mine, as mine had a flat. It was a decent Japanese ATB however, so the wallet was equally hurt. But at least its not as big a sentimental loss :) Question: are there problems with powerful FWD motors? Rear brakes don't work so well, the...

    Motor for a LWB recumbent

Hi all, I should probably look around these forums to see if there are other events where ebikes will be present in the SF bay area. I think I've only ever seen one ebike outside of the EAA rally, at the main library in Redwood City. I went and spoke with the irascible bicycle storage shack...

Mating motor to gear sprockets and H Bridge Circuit

Thanks for the feedback! I will look into the reducer after I post this. Hopefully the non freewheeling crank won't be a problem because I'd prefer not to have a throttle on the handlebars, but rather provide assist when the user is pedaling. I'm not sure how I'd make that happen, but thats...

Mating motor to gear sprockets and H Bridge Circuit

Hehe, I'm packing in two questions for all of you guys: 1) I bought a BMC/PowerPack motor with a D shaft for my recumbent. I think the easiest way to hook this up to the wheels is to have a chain from one of the crank sprockets go to the motor, which will be mounted underneath the main tube...

    Motor for a LWB recumbent

I purchased the BMC 750 watt motor from PowerPack motors. It arrived a couple of weeks ago. I have been working on the motor controller software in AVR Studio 4 using the simulator. I will be making a run to Jameco to purchase components for the h bridges hopefully tomorrow. Last weekend I...

    * * * THE BRUSHLESS BMC MOTOR * * *

Safe thanks for this thread. I purchased this motor just now from powerpack. My spreadsheets show a good price point at 36v with lithium ion cells, so I'll try running it at that voltage.

BMS, how I designed mine. A semi intelligent dummies guide.

Nice posts, Maxwell. Good to see its all thought out and you've got schematics. I know I will have to get around to a BMS once I work out the motor for my bike and everything. I'll bookmark this page :) Look forward to seeing more if you're going to post it.

    Motor for a LWB recumbent

Hi Rassy, I do have pictures posted. My personal website has details of the bike build under the projects section. http://www.petervieth.com I am not a native San Franciscan, though I have lived in the area for most of my life. I've been living in the city itself for only a short while. So...
