    If that's the silver colored tab you're referring to, then it's likely nickel-steel. It's somewhat easy to solder using tin-lead, but the connection must be cleaned first (I've used sand-paper when necessary), preferably with alcohol.

    Assuming you've cleaned and fluxed the connection as usual with soldering, that could be due to the tab being aluminum (It would be silver colored). Aluminum requires its own special form of solder which radio shack doesn't carry, I believe.
