Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

Thanks, but I found a 3.3V CAN transceiver, so will be a direct exchange to the other. This is still small and cheap:

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

Next build will probably be an old Xiaomi M365. I guess is just the same motor controller board, with one brake and one throttle. The same wireless display, the same wireless lights. But I need to build a wireless power switch, as I will use the original battery and not one with the same BMS I...

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

I had issues with throttle and took some days to figure out the issue. I though my ESP32-S3 board were partially burned or some deep issue with the CircuitPython firmware. In the end, I could understand the issue were about high voltage on IO pins that were changing the analog signal of the ADC...

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

Because on this Fiido Q1S, with dual motors and using a lot of power compared to my EBike, the UART communications to VESC here gave a bit of errors and so the data on the display suddenly fail / kept out on synchronization. So, I decided to move to CAN communication and is way better (still a...

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

In August 2024, I was riding far from home and the rear tire got flat!! I were using inner tubes with sealant so I asked at a home I found, for help, to try to fill the tire with air in the hope the sealant would fix the issue. But no, was not possible!! I had to ask a long car ride to carry me...

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

I am thinking in adding a secondary main screen, where I can add technical data like phase amps. Daily, I just need to know if battery is fully charged when I leave home. The current time is also very important!! Wheel speed to understand if I am riding to much fast and motor power to understand...

    Bafang M500/M600 thread

I decided to update my Opensource DIY EBike, mainly because I am using a better display now, a monochromatic instead of an OLED. This new one is much better to see on outdoors as also is bigger - I am being using this display and firmware on my Fiido Q1S scooter, since one year ago. A bit more...

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

The current design of the main screen. Big numbers for the current wheel speed!! A graph bar to represent the current motor power, between 0 and 2000 watts. With smaller numbers, the current time. And I need to work the battery SOC value.

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

Some months ago, I decided to create lateral panels in acrylic. I used an angle grinder to cut, a heat gun to shape it and finally painted in black. My little daughter did help me a bit :-) Sometimes we go to the park (riding very slowly!) and we enjoy a lot riding on the dirt roads :-)

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

In August 2024, my Fiido Q1S frame broke!! Luckily I was riding at a slow speed... I was so sad, because I had a plan to do a long ride on mountains while I went to camping and do a Trail Run race, on the next 2 weeks. And all the efforts I put on the seated scooter, I would not trust anymore...

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

I am using my Fiido Q1S every day, mostly to go make small shopping or to the gym. Sometimes I will need something from the city and is way better with Fiido Q1S then with car, because there is no parking at the city. I did a few improvements, I hope to post in next days pictures and details...

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

As my motor were overheating, I couldn't find other way to improve the issue than use a dual motor -- as I had a used second motor in stock (with 30% less torque and 30% higher KV), I installed on the front wheel. I also had in stock a 135mm distance between dropouts fork for Fiido Q1S, exactly...

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

I decided to install a second throttle specifically to control the brake / regen. I installed it on the left side, but I installed a throttle that was made to install on the right side, so on the left side I need to move it forward while the throttle on the right I need to move it backward...

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

As my motor is heating a lot (at least much more than what I expected, but I may be wrong), I improved the firmware, to keep the highest motor current (135 amps - 0 kms/h speed) at start and then reduce it linearly up to 40 amps and keep that value afterwards (40 amps - after 30 kms/h). I also...

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

I am limiting the motor phase current to 135 amps and I see the motor getting hot relatively quick. The seller told me this is a 2000W motor and the max motor phase current should be 80A. Today I tested the motor for the first time using the VESC foc_openloop 80 1000, that rotates the motor at...

    Fiido Q1S Upgrade; 200A, VESC, Copper-Nickel 52v Molicel

Hi. I need probably to go with the dual motor setup and I was looking at that split rim motors - thanks for sharing all this details!! Did you increase the currents? if so, what are the ones you are using now? and you configure VESC to use the same phase current as the battery current? I...

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

I found and confirmed with the seller, that my motor is in fact the 5000W version and not the 2000W version I bought!! But since I asked for a custom winding to have more torque and lower speed, she is saying if I buy another motor but this time for 72V, it will have more torque. However, I...

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

Yes, I keep the same current, because I needed more torque comparing to previous motor. I was not aware of the resistance increase. A search on google: Does temperature cause rust? An increase in temperature contributes to an increase in the number of active centers of corrosion on the metal...

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

It is a 12 inches motor. The motor dropouts internal distance is 125mm. The tires can be like 12x3.00 or 12x3.50. I need to look at that QS motors. For now I am looking at this ones - because they have 40 magnets and mine have 30, so I expect 33% more torque(??). And it is a rim split, meaning...

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

I have a new issue to solve... I am trying to do longer rides, and sometimes even on more hilly terrain, but the motor heats a lot and stops to work. The next pictures shows the Fiido Q1S on a train, on a nice early morning sunny Sunday, where I went to a distant place by train and then I did...

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

So yesterday I had to leave the car at the mechanic workshop for a week - the distance from my home is 25kms. So I decided to put the Fiido Q1S on the car and I returned home riding it. And I did easy secondary roads as also some gravel roads - this are places where I grow up. Was a nice sunny...

Fiido Q1S 5kW dual motor: VESC + modular DIY OpenSource electronics and software

Front suspension is the original. The rear shock I changed to this one: I don't have experience on the gravel paths but I would can say clearly that both that front and rear suspensions are important for the comfort on the road potholes!! In the rear I have now installed a 3.00x8 tire. On...
