Melted my 36v motor - any tips on rewinding?

Thanks for your input, it is indeed a unite motor. I didn't realize RPM is an issue, I thought current&heat was the main worry... In that case I sould get a new motor, because when running the old one@48v I reached the speed I wanted - about 40kph (25mph)... and it's obviously not econmical to...

Melted my 36v motor - any tips on rewinding?

Hi, I run a mid motor kit from gng electric, just the small 36v/250w motor. However, I upgraded to a 48v/500w battery & controller setup... I melted the windings in the motor. When opening the motor you could see that the insulation material between the wire windings and the armature had failed...

    Beware American A123 prismatic cells!

Well, so they die when they are clamped together. So lets not clamp them together hard when we build bike packs :)

What battery chem did they sell me?

Thanks amigafan, that is most likely it! Seems to be the right weight etc. Kinda happy if they are not lipo, I live in an apartment and dont really have a safe place to charge them... btw, It's supposed to be 13s, but it's hard to see. The charger is supposed to cut off at 54.6v per it's...

What battery chem did they sell me?

Hi guys, after much agony I finally bought a 48v 10ah battery, the "frog" case model from conhis. http://conhismotor.com/ProductShow.asp?id=210 When it arrived I was shocked that it weighed so little 3,4kg (7.5lb) so I opened it up. It is supposed to be 5p13s, and I thought it to be a Li-Ion...

12s2p LiPo pack kit including 12-channel BMS "Lite" Board

Assuming cost isn't prohibitive, I definately want one too. Although I would much prefer the packaged plug-n-play version, in a stressful life I just want to be able to chuck my lipo pack on a PSU, and be done with it. Let the BMS sort it out.. :)

overvolting & shunt mod - how many watts?

Thanks drunkskunk! I was uncertain on how watts-volts and everything relate, but now it seems quite clear. I'm going to start with a 48v upgrade, as that not only gives top speed (aiming for like 35kph or so) but also some extra low end grunt. After that we'll see if I can keep my grubby little...

overvolting & shunt mod - how many watts?

Hi, I'm new to e-bikes, but I just converted my standard Giant bike (french) to run a mid-motor system (http://www.cyclone-tw.com/newkits.htm) running at 36v@250w. For now it's powered by Bosch fatpacks, as I have those through my job. My question is, I'd like to up the power a bit, right now...
