Difficulty getting high quality 7 speed gear?

Not to be pedantic, but it's a cluster, not a cassette. Rear motors use freewheel clusters, not freehub cassettes. I mention this mostly because it would suck to buy the wrong part. http://sheldonbrown.com/freewheels.html There should be a screw on your derailleur for low stop. If you tighten...

    AmpBike Help

Oh. When you tap the throttle HOUSING the lights go out? I think that it's probably pretty safe to say that there is a problem with your throttle then. Buy a new throttle. You can get a new one from ampedbikes for $15 + $5 shipping. You can also buy the throttles from pretty much anywhere else...

    AmpBike Help

If the lights go out when you push the throttle down, that means there is a major loss of power somewhere. Maybe your battery fails to give enough voltage when under strain? Maybe there is a short somewhere? Do any of the components heat up when you try and run it? Do the batteries get hot...

    Got the 'wave' tonight

People constantly wave at me... however I ride a "girl bike" frame, and have very long blue hair (waist length). So I have a feeling a lot of it is due to that. However, one time I know it was my bike. I was sitting in the bike lane, waiting for the light to change. Motorcycle pulls up next to...

Difficulty getting high quality 7 speed gear?

Shimano makes a nice cheap 7 speed freewheel cluster (hyperglide), however it's 13 teeth (top is 28 teeth). You can find them easily on amazon, but I got my original from sheldon brown / harris cycle. I have yet to see a decent 11 tooth 7 speed freewheel cluster.

Replacing my motorcycle with an E-bike, advice needed

I had once heard a great technique to make a bike less desirable to steal. TWO coats of paint. The first coat some sort of rust colored paint (brass color, or some sort of red). Get it dirty, and then repaint it with some cheap paint. Scar up the paint a little and it will look like the frame is...

    AmpBike Help

Alright, so it sounds like your brakes, motor, battery, and switch are all good. So that pretty much leaves the throttle and the controller. A little caveat about my advice about testing throttles and controllers, I've never actually tested these before with a multimeter, as I ended up getting...

    AmpBike Help

Ignition switch... as in you have a red rocker style on/off switch to turn the whole setup on or off? Some ampedbikes setups have the red rocker switch, some ampedbikes have a red button switch on the controller. Some kits from other places don't have an on/off switch at all. You should be able...

    AmpBike Help

Patience is a virtue. Not all of us get a chance to read the forums every day, so sometimes information can be slow. Folks here are fairly eager to help, but everyone here is a volunteer and many of us have day jobs. There should be some plugs running from your motor to the controller. There...

    Decent Beach Cruiser?

That's my bike. It's an Electra Cruiser. Stock frame here: http://www.electrabike.com/Bikes/cruiser-cruiser-bikes-ladies-114176 There are a few different types of Electra Cruisers. Mine is steal, frame and fork. My wife's is aluminum frame, steal fork I believe (they don't make her exact model...

    Sogged motor, possibly dead halls

Big update! The hall sensors came in, and I installed them. I went ahead and trashed all three of the old hall sensors. It took forever to solder them on, since my soldering iron kind of sucks. I didn't end up with any serious burns though, so I consider that a success. I found some really...

Why are so many trying to chase high speeds? Reality check

It's kinda funny... I didn't get a motor to get speed at all. I have a motor for distance. Without a motor I was able to pass cars in 35 mph zones (no idea if they are actually going 35, my cyclometer craps out somewhere around 20 mph, stupid cheap thing). Going that fast didn't feel safe at...

    Sogged motor, possibly dead halls

Update: I drilled some holes in the cable side plate to help it all drain. I used much smaller holes than was suggested in the previous link. My thinking is that I'm not overheating this thing, so it doesn't need the ventilation for cooling, just for keeping dry. So a few small holes should be...

    AmpBike Help

I'm in the process of rebuilding and ampedbike motor right now actually... So I can tell you what I know so far. First off, I'm not surprised they stopped answering your emails. Ampedbikes is not exactly known for having the highest customer service... The reason I am rebuilding my motor is...

The best bad idea I've had today

True... Unless you shined up the inside of the hub enough to function as a mirror... or put mirrors inside... like an inside out disco ball! Yeah okay maybe not.

The best bad idea I've had today

I can't see why you couldn't hook up a temperature sensor inside the motor. I think you would have to wire it so the transmitter is outside of the hub though, since I'm not sure how it would behave with a ring of magnets spinning around it. But still, I can't see why you can't put a sensor in...

The best bad idea I've had today

Okay, my wife made me stop and think about this rationally. She's the logical one in the relationship. There are 46 magnets (assuming my counting skills are functioning today), so there should be 23 blinks per rotation (one magnet turns the light on, the next magnet turns it off). Referencing...

The best bad idea I've had today

I just had a flash of inspiration that is a horribly terrible awesome idea! So, it's simple really. It is based on three simple facts, that when combined, are terrible and awesome: Drilling holes in the sides of motors makes them vent better, helps them dry out. Hall sensors inside the motor...

    Hall sensor interchangeability SS41

True. And most likely those signal wires can't take that much anyways, so you would probably have melted insulation on the signal wires. Maybe it's a good thing halls blow first since they are relatively easy to replace. Ha! So very true.

    Hall sensor interchangeability SS41

Perfect! Just what I was trying to get at. So perhaps in other uses the different sensors would have different affects, but for our motors it's a non-issue. That makes perfect sense. So folks don't use the SS41 because it's inherently "better", but just because it's the easiest to get. Only...

    Hall sensor interchangeability SS41

Right. I'm not saying it's a Honeywell part. But it is perhaps an imitation of the Honeywell part SS41F, not an imitation of the Honeywell part SS41. It would seem reasonable to think that a part stamped "41F" is more similar to an "SS41F" than a "SS41". But again... I don't care about if my...

    Hall sensor interchangeability SS41

@dnmun, you might be right that it is not an SS41F from Honeywell... however, it is clearly marked as 41F. The F is not over to the side. You can see it here: You can click on it and zoom in and see it. I went ahead and flipped and zoomed it: So... The fact that it is clearly stamped "41F"...

    Hall sensor interchangeability SS41

    K. Sounds like the differences between ss41f, ss41 doesn't matter on these things... I'll get the one that is in stock then!
