motor to controller Phase connection question

Thank you Amberwolf for pointing me to those related threads. Perfect. From reading those threads, think I have connections correct since the motor runs powerfully, quietly, smoothly, in the correct direction, and the power levels seem not to be excessive. I'm going to chalk the previous...

motor to controller Phase connection question

Looking for some help with being sure that all is correct. I upgraded my ebike with 48V 1000W motor with a new 1500W KT sine wave controller. I connected the phase/hall wiring by color, motor to controller, blue to blue, green to green, and yellow to yellow, and my bike ran very well; correct...

    Greared motor noise

Finally got to the bottom of my noise issue. Turns out the noise is the growl of the motor under load, but in my case enhanced due to the metal flag holder. The flag holder was tightly bolted to the axle and rested against the rear aluminum bike rack. Somehow this combination increased the...

    Greared motor noise

Hello d8veh, Thank you for the great explanation of the sound due to the controller pulses. Maybe the reason I'm hearing it more lately is the 'Need for Speed' I've developed with this go-kart/trike. I will listen to the sound with a new ear next ride.

    Greared motor noise

Does this sound like an obvious motor problem? Any idea's on what this noise is? I know gear motors makes some noise, but I think this noise louder than should be expected. I have about 100 miles on my:Model: 2013 Conhismotor Brushless Gearless Mini Hub Motor 48V 350W. It runs great...

First ride, almost runs. Please help

Yesterday, took the trike out for a chilly 38F 18 mile ride, almost 100% powered by the battery, on a pretty much flat rail trial. Seemed to be running a bit slower on the 4 miles, but still ran at a good clip. Seemed to run scary fast when I started, but at the end I just kept it floored...

Tri This: The Official Tricycle Thread

Here is my trike now that it is up and running. Many thanks to the great help from members here. I really have not ridden it anywhere yet, just a few short checkout runs. It's no rocket, but my desire is that folks don't notice it's motored. I'll just have to remember to pedal a bit. Motor...

First ride, almost runs. Please help

Thank you for helping me diagnose this to the correct component. The new controller arrived today. It fixed the problem with the motor cutting out with anything but a light throttle. Still do not have a technical explanation why the 1000W controller did not work with the 350W motor, but...

First ride, almost runs. Please help

Thank you for continuing with the ideas and suggestions. Hello John in CR, I just inspected the controller soldering, didn't find any obvious shorts. Managed to get it back together without extra parts. Will retry it later this week. I don't expect anything fixed (or more broken.). We had...

I'm not sure how to judge these results, but I'm happy that all are above 3.2V. Think I've read that they should overall be within 0.1V, they are close. At this point, I'm hoping some charging cycles will improve things. The battery has only about about 1 mile of loaded use on it. Don't know...

First ride, almost runs. Please help

Profiled to the best of my understanding the cell voltages. Still cautious about shorting two probes across the cells, measured relative to Ground then calculated the Cell Voltage. Verified the low V cells and was accurate. This is after being charged, then left sitting for 5 days.

First ride, almost runs. Please help

I thought the battery voltages were good. I'll have to check those cell voltages sometime. Seems I have nothing better to do for a couple weeks. I did some searching but didn't find anything confirming a controller/motor size problem. But I know less about motor controllers than I know about...

First ride, almost runs. Please help

I just tried this suggestion. Made up a little jumper cable to connect the battery outputs (before the BMS unit) directly to the controller power input before the fuse. Took the precaution of moving the trike out of the garage before plugging in. (So I could kick it into yard if it flamed!)...

First ride, almost runs. Please help

Shorting the white wires has the same results, The motor cuts-out with anything but a small acceleration. The shorted white wires did change the amount that I had to turn the throttle to get a reaction, so I know the short was made. Ordered a smaller, 500w controller from Conhis that will...

First ride, almost runs. Please help

Conhis updated me and is suggesting that the 1000W controller is not compatible with the smaller 350Watt motor. This was suggested on this thread early and I had discounted, thinking it was a efficiently issue. I'll try the 250Watt mode, and have to get another controller.

Conhis has replied, based on the voltage results with the wheel off the ground testing, thinks the main problem is the controller limiting the current. So will be replacing the controller.

I think that is a great idea, seems safe enough with a 30amp fuse in the circuit, and I'm guessing a 30 second test would not do any damage to a healthy pack. I'd just need get a good connection to wires directly from the battery. Here are my battery voltages, with the charger connected and a...

First ride, almost runs. Please help

Hello Ykick, I had cold feet after I ordered the mixed pair of controller and motor, so I emailed Conhis about concerns of burning out the motor. They indicated the mix would not be a problem. Because the 1000W controller cost the same as the lower power controllers, I choose the higher...

Hello Dnmun, The battery; fully charged on the charger is 60V, when connected to the controller on the trike, and turned on, 54V(measured at the controller power input). By the spec: it'a LiFePO4 48V 15Ah 30A (BMS set) Max charge V is 60V, Discharge cut-off 35.2. No labels on the ebay battery...

My mistake then, my apologies to BikeFanatic for my thinking it was a joke. I had no idea what the governor wire is. I do not have the 250watt euro mode leads shorted, is that the same idea? Thank you BikeFanatice and Bowlofsalad.

Yeah, it's a geared direct drive hub motor. I ordered the a small motor, so it would not be noticed** and a high watt controller in case I wanted later get a larger motor later. Not sure how efficient the combination is, but thought it would work. (**I had hoped to hide the battery behind...
