    ESC Repair Question

So I was riding today and for whatever reason my motor locked up while at speed. This weird problem has happened before, but this time I could smell the infamous 'magic smoke' coming from my ESC. The ESC in question is a HobbyKing TrackStar 200 amp, which I purposely bought because I saw it as...

    Taking board on a flight

I found this online: https://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/ash/ash_programs/hazmat/passenger_info/media/faa_airline_passengers_and_batteries.pdf which like you said describes the 100 wh limit. What Im wondering is whether they count each pack as it's own battery (which I...

    Taking board on a flight

I am going to St. John Island at some point this year and would love to take my board with me. I've read up quite a bit on this and have gathered some information, but was wondering if anyone has any experience or tips to share about taking a DIY eboard on a flight. I know that no matter what...

    Motor timing with new gearing

After some inspection, I think I've pinpointed the cause of all of this trouble. I have disassembled my motor and it seems that the skirt bearing has been damaged at some point and is no longer smooth at all. Unfortunately, that bearing size(38mm x 25mm x 7mm) seems to be a very rare part. Other...

    Motor timing with new gearing

Trust me, I know all about alien esc problems. This is my second one (the first one totally blew up and actually almost caused a fire) and a few months back the internal BEC died for no apparent reason and it is now run off of an external one. I live in NH though, so hardly close lol. I'm going...

    Motor timing with new gearing

I do have some relatively steep hills around me, but even riding on flat level ground seems slower even still. I do always kick off, what I had noticed was that even after the initial kick off (which I get up to a reasonable speed), the motor stutters and even stalls when accelerating hard. This...

    Motor timing with new gearing

My current setup is using a sk3 6364 213 kv motor on 6s batteries. I originally was using the stock 9mm gearing kit from torquebaords (which I believe was using 14t/44t). I recently upgraded to an 11mm belt kit, also from torqueboards which almost certainly has a 36t wheel pulley and a slightly...

Quad motor setup and general design questions

I'm not sure as I cant find detailed specs but it looks like (and sounds like) those motors are brushed DC motors, rather than brushless which is what the majority of people want to ride

Quad motor setup and general design questions

If I was going to do this, I would probably still use a separate, central control cpu to interface each of the escs over the CAN bus. Just by adding a gyroscope to the center of the board you could read the angle it's turned at and add a speed multiplier to both the inner and outer esc sets. You...

    Tearing belts left and right

I see, i will make the appropriate adjustments. Do you have the 36T pulley on your site now? I looked and did not see it

    Tearing belts left and right

Is that 36T pulley for the drive pulley on the motor or the driven pulley on the wheel? And once I get my new belts I'll adjust that. Just to clarify, the belt should almost be right next to the inside wall of the motor pulley to keep belt in place?

    Tearing belts left and right

I do remember seeing that a while back and I believe I had added washers to correct that problem. Once I did that the belt lasted longer but if I remember correctly it still tore. On the drive pulley you supply, is it normal for the top of the teeth to be a bit sharp? Not sure if that's playing...

    Tearing belts left and right

Here's the current pulley aligntment as it is now: and here's the last belt to tear, its basically in immaculate condition except for the tear:

    Tearing belts left and right

If I absolutley had to, is it reasonable to think I could team out the motor mount near the shaft to allow the stem of the pulley to fit further down? This way I wouldn't have to move the wheel out as much
  16. F

    Tearing belts left and right

Yes, my board actually wont get moving without kicking from the start. I'm running a 213 KV which I know is a relatively torquey motor but I cant imagine that it would cause belts to break this often. How far out does the wheel have to be moved out for the 15mm belts? If i remember correctly i...

    Your Favorite Place to Ride

Just wanted to see where everyone else really likes to go on their board: Me: I live in Boston, and after putting the main highway through the city underground the city created a park in the place of the old elevated highway, right through the center of the city. It's called the greenway, it's...

    Tearing belts left and right

I'll post pictures once im back in my room, I've been looking to see if thats the case but I can't tell

    Tearing belts left and right

I ride in Boston for the most part, there are definitely some hills but I don't think they hold a candle to what you ride in San Francisco. I would say the vast majority of my riding is on fairly level ground. The teeth on the wheel pulley are worn in slightly on the exposed end (the one not...

    Tearing belts left and right

I've been having issues with my belts for quite some time now, I am using htd 5mm and the standard pulleys provided with the kit from torqueboards. As of today I have torn through my 6th belt since I bought the kit, which was in the early fall. Keep in mind I live in Boston so I was not riding...

Very odd Alien ESC Problem - BEC

Yeah that was pretty much my plan, I had noticed that you have started moving away from the APS setups lately which is definitely good. Between this and the fact that the first one I got from you literally cooked itself they're clearly not well built. Do you know if the VESC is available to buy...

Very odd Alien ESC Problem - BEC

So I am on my second Alien ESC, this one has been bulletproof reliable for me for quite some time until recently. I took my board out for this first time a few days ago (in case you didn't hear, Boston had quite the winter) and the board ran perfectly for the 6 or so miles. I came back, switched...

    Eboard Motor Maintenance

No, I actually alternate between 2x4s and 2x3s 50000mah's. the problem for me is that I have very specific wants for my enclosure. specifically being waterproof, extremely easy to change batteries, and as sleek as possible

    Eboard Motor Maintenance

That sounds like a cool idea to look into, especially for esc's. I've been trying to design a printable enclosure that's both easy to open and at the very least water resistant. Would be much easier if I didn't have to design around te fact that my build plate is 150mm square and the batteries I...

    Eboard Motor Maintenance

Awesome. As for the idea of swapping out wheels and bearings for rainy days, I actually had the same idea. Not only do you save the bearings but I'm also think of cutting some channels into the "rain" wheels as a way to maybe get some more traction(although I do have to say I've learned how to...
