Physical protection of naked AllCell Packs

The BMS sense wires on my last 36V naked (protected only by shrinkwrap) AllCell battery shorted and caught fire a few months ago due to friction against my controller and banging against my rear rack while it was in my saddle bag. My newer packs are wrapped in foam and zip-tied. Has anyone found...

    AllCell Battery Fire

A follow up to this post: AllCell did a test: "After tripping the LVC, We input 25A/800W of regen current. After 5 minutes, the FETs reached 80°C." They also mentioned that older packs create more heat. In the end it does seem that fricition and banging against the rear rack caused my sense...

    AllCell Battery Fire

Yes isn't the point of the BMS to cutoff power at a Safe level before voltage gets too low ? Tomjasz - What is the proper use of regen braking ? Never use it when your battery is getting low ? Isn't the point of regen to add power to your battery and increase range ? I've sent this story and...

    AllCell Battery Fire

Thanks for your responses everyone. Yes I'm a beginner and this is my first e bike. I had been trying unsuccessfully to build a battery for the last few months and was relieved when a friend sold me this unused brand name pack. I have not normally been running the pack down to LVC. This was...

    AllCell Battery Fire

I've been using an AllCell 36V battery for the last 3 weeks and today it caught fire !! Towards the end of my ride. Using the CA3, 9C 1000W motor. Previously the BMS on the AllCell functioned properly and after discharging to about 33V would cut off power. Towards the end of this ride, it cut...

13s4p voltage sag - problems and questions

Yes we def burned a few strips through repeated welding when they weren't welding properly. Also at one point a strip was place in the wrong location and caused that nickel strip to turn red hot right away and almost start a fire. Nickel strips are pure.

13s4p voltage sag - problems and questions

Thanks eTrike - This is a 35A controller from Grin. For unknown reasons, the max current feature is hidden on my CA, which i'm working on solving through the programming cable hooked up to my mac, so far no luck with that. However, isn't limiting the max wattage to 750 on the CA the same as...

13s4p voltage sag - problems and questions

Now that the battery is unwrapped and I had it on the charger for about 30 minutes, I'm noticing that the positive ends of two of the cells in the middle of the pack are very hot !! I guess i just found the points of resistance ?

13s4p voltage sag - problems and questions

Thanks Flat Tire, I also used the 709A ! The welds seemed solid, the nickel was adhered firmly to the poles of the batteries... (except for those 2 i just found ; ) ) It definitely took quite a few weld attempts to get certain strips to stick. This is the 220V version of the 709A. Yes but at...

13s4p voltage sag - problems and questions

Hello, I'm looking for input into my first battery building attempt: 52 cells, 13s4p, brand new Samsung 26F's Attached pic shows BMS but, BMS got fried during installation, so I'm running this with no BMS, using cycle satiator, and CA3 Series connections are doubled with pure nickel strip...

    Charge / discharge lead

Thanks eTrike, What are mating cycles ? Can you give me an example of a precharge resistor ? Would that be an inline fuse between the charger and the battery pack ? Just upgrading now from Andersons to XT60's.

acceptable voltage range for samsung lithium cells

I'm in New York and I bought these over Ali Express. I opened a dispute with the seller who claims they're the real deal and says regarding the highly varied voltages: "battery life may be different, this is normal, do you not know ? " !!!

acceptable voltage range for samsung lithium cells

I just dug a little deeper and discovered that I have 6 authentic cells with branded canisters that I ordered from a different vendor in california. These cells are all within .01v of eachother, and the white ring comes off the cell easily - no adhesive ! Redilast I really appreciate you helping...

acceptable voltage range for samsung lithium cells

Redilast, Looking closely at the bare steel can, there is no text or manufacturer's stamp at all - completely blank ! I don't see any adhesive on the white ring and it is not loose, firmly attached. Yes I'm going to get a cheap charger to try and bring the cells up to 4.2v ... maybe one that...

acceptable voltage range for samsung lithium cells

Thank you Hillhater I've been reading through the DrkAngel posts, tons of great info. Redilast can you give me an example of attaching a 3A load to test an individual cell ? Using something like a small light bulb ? How would you attach that to the cell ? Thanks

acceptable voltage range for samsung lithium cells

Hi Redilast, These are all labeled 26F not 26FM I have 54 of these altogether, but 8 of them are from a second source. The pictures are of one of the two duds that I received that I tested at below 3.0 v (they're about 2.6 - 2.7) Most of the rest of the batteries seem "ok" but again there's...

acceptable voltage range for samsung lithium cells

Hello, Just bought some new samsung ICR 26F cells from Ali Express. What is the acceptable voltage range for new cells? My multimeter is showing some at 2.90 and a few at 3.90 ! Can I just charge the weaker ones separately up to within the proper range before welding them together ? I'm...
